Major administrative changes have been made in the minority education system in Uttarakhand. Under the new law, notification for the formation of Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority has been issued. Along with this, it has also been made clear that the Madrasa Board of the state will be abolished from July 31, 2026. After this, all the work related to Madrasa Board will be conducted under the newly constituted authority.

According to the notification, retired Kumaon University professor Surjit Singh Gandhi has been appointed the first chairman of Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority. Apart from this, a total of eight members have been appointed in the authority, who will work on various aspects related to minority education.

2 out of 8 members will be Muslims

According to the member list, two out of eight members are from the Muslim community. These include retired Professor Syed Ali Hamid of Kumaon University and Professor Robina Aman, Chairperson of the Chemistry Department at Soban Singh Jeena University. The Muslim community is considered the largest among the minority communities of the state.

Authority will look into matters related to minority educational institutions

This authority formed under the new law will look into matters related to minority educational institutions. This will include recognition of institutions, academic activities, curriculum and other administrative matters. Till now all these works came under Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board.

Questions are being raised regarding representation

After the announcement of abolition of Madrasa Board, discussion regarding it has started among the organizations and communities related to minority education. Some people are seeing it as administrative reorganization, while questions are also being raised by some sections regarding representation.

The board will expire by 31 July 2026

At present, after the issuance of the notification, the process of implementation of the new system is being started by the concerned departments. By July 31, 2026, the works related to Madarsa Board will be transferred to the Minority Education Authority in a phased manner. After this change, minority education in the state will be conducted under a completely new structure.

Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board has given good news for the students. The board has extended the last date for filling online applications for Munshi-Maulvi and Aalim examinations. Now students can fill their examination forms till 26th December. Earlier this date was 20th December.

Why was this decision taken?

The Madrasa Board took this decision because very few students had filled the forms till now. The board had received only 54 thousand 200 applications. This number was much less than before. At the same time, the last date for depositing the examination fee has now been extended to 24th December. Earlier this date was 19 December. Students have been advised to deposit their fees and fill the form as soon as possible. Delay can cause problems.

How many madrassas in UP?

There are thousands of madrassas in Uttar Pradesh. Lakhs of students studying in these madrassas appear in these examinations every year. Munshi and Maulvi examination is of high school level. Whereas, Alim exam is of intermediate level. These examinations are conducted in Arabic and Persian languages. These include religious education as well as general subjects.

The board has written a letter to the principals of all the madrassas asking them to get their students to fill the forms soon. Very few applications have come so far from many districts. The board wants that as many students as possible can take the examination. It has been made easier for students to fill online forms. Madrasa Board works under the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Its headquarters is in Lucknow. This board conducts examinations every year and declares results. This year also the examinations will be held on time, but this step has been taken to streamline the process of filling the form.
