A case has been registered against newly elected Shiv Sena (UBT) councilor Milind Vaidya and his associates for taking out a victory procession without police permission in Mahim, central Mumbai. The incident is reported to have taken place on the evening of January 24, when prohibitory orders were in effect in the area and the police had already refused permission.

What is the whole matter?

According to Mahim Police, newly elected councilor of Shiv Sena (UBT) Milind Vaidya had won from ward number 182 in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections held on January 15. A victory procession was planned after the victory, but the police did not allow it as prohibitory orders were in place till midnight on 26 January.

The police officer said that for the first time on January 18, permission was sought for the victory procession, which was rejected citing law and order and prohibitory orders. After this, applications were made again on 22 and 24 January, but Mahim police flatly refused to give permission both the times.

How was the procession taken out without permission?

According to the police, despite not getting permission, a victory procession was taken out in Mahim area on January 24 between 5:30 pm and 8 pm. During this, a huge crowd of supporters took to the streets and burst crackers in the procession. Additionally, loudspeakers were also used, due to which there was a possibility of public order being affected.

Police say that this procession was completely unauthorized. No procession or rally of any kind was allowed during the prohibitory order. The procession posed a risk to traffic and law and order.

Against whom was the case registered?

Taking cognizance of the unauthorized rally, Mahim police has registered a case against Shiv Sena (UBT) councilor Milind Vaidya and his associates. According to the police, Vinay Akre, Avirat Shinde, Santosh Sarve, Deepak Sawant and more than 40 others have been made accused in this case.

All the accused are accused of holding a rally without permission. Use of firecrackers and loudspeakers has also been considered a violation of the rules. Police are investigating further and action will be taken as per law.

Mahim Police has made it clear that violation of prohibitory orders and rules related to public safety will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The administration says that even after winning the elections, it is important to remain within the ambit of the law for celebrations, and strict action will be taken against such events without permission.

It was described as the last joint rally in Mumbai before the municipal elections to be held on January 15, where both the brothers termed themselves the only option to save the city.

Appeal to save Marathi people and Mumbai

Addressing the rally, Uddhav Thackeray said that he and Raj Thackeray have forgotten their old differences in the interest of Marathi people, Hindus and Maharashtra. He claimed that in the current situation, it was necessary for both of them to come together to save Mumbai. Uddhav said that this fight is not just for power, but for the identity and future of Mumbai.

He appealed to the voters to elect a leadership that can protect the interests of the city and the state. Thackeray said that if the civic body remains in his hands, any external pressure on Mumbai’s properties can be prevented.

BJP accused of looting and annexing Mumbai

Addressing the Marathi vote bank, Raj Thackeray said that both the brothers have come together because Mumbai is facing a serious threat. He alleged that BJP is trying to ‘loot’ Mumbai and link it with Gujarat. According to PTI, citing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, Raj said that the long-term plan is to connect Mumbai with Gujarat. He warned that if BMC remained with him, he would not be able to sell the land to the industrialist.

Questions on BJP’s Hindutva and nationalism

Describing this election as the last election of Marathi people, Raj Thackeray said that if a mistake is made now, the battle of Mumbai will be lost forever. The Chief Minister further said that the Nashik meeting was started with ‘My dear Hindu brothers and sisters’, but the word ‘Hindu’ was missing in the Mumbai meeting. There the address was given as ‘My dear patriotic citizens’. Fadnavis raised the question whether there is shame in speaking the word ‘Hindu’ in Mumbai or whether it is being avoided for the vote bank of a particular class. He linked it to vote bank politics.

Emphasis on development of Yeola

Bhujbal said in his address that “Our Yeola has been an area with historical identity, but it once struggled with drought”. He reminded the people that ever since he got the opportunity to serve in 2004, efforts to change the picture of the village gained momentum. He claimed that today Yeola has a changed identity due to development works like roads, irrigation, drinking water and agricultural reforms. Bhujbal said that this development is not the result of any one person but the strong support and continuous trust of the public.
