In Bihar alone, it is grown in about 15,000 hectares of water body. About 5 lakh families are directly included in the cultivation of Makhana &#8211; harvesting, popping, sales and production. Every year about 7,500 to 10,000 tonnes of popped Makhana is sold from Bihar.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The process of preparing the makhana is included in three stages. The seed is roasted in a traditional earthen pot or raw iron pan from 250 ° C to 320 ° C, early for 2 to 3 days, re -roasting and re -roasted and separated from the peel using a molecade (wood hammer or mungari). Removal after roasting requires highly skilled workers as a delay of a few seconds in removal will make a poor quality popped makhana.</p>
