Bengal Election 2026: This time the political equations were seen changing completely in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Women and Muslim voters, i.e. the ‘two M factors’, which were considered the strength of Trinamool Congress (TMC) for a long time, were seen weakening this time, which had a direct impact on the election results.

BJP’s focus on women factor
BJP campaigned heavily making the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill an issue. Not only this, the party also made many big announcements keeping women at the center. Its effect is clearly visible in the elections. Incidents like rape and murder in RG Kar Medical College also raised serious questions regarding safety among women, due to which TMC’s hold seemed to be weakening.

There was a situation of fragmentation in Muslim votes.
Now talking about the second ‘M’ i.e. Muslim factor, this time this community did not appear united like before. Muslim voters have been playing an important role in Mamata Banerjee’s politics, but this time this equation seemed to be breaking. There is also discussion within TMC that Mamata Banerjee could not effectively represent the community on issues like SIR, Waqf and exclusion of Muslim castes from the OBC list. For this reason, Muslim voters were not united with TMC like before.

Hindu voters are inclined towards BJP
On the other hand, Hindu voters appeared more mobilized in favor of BJP than before, the effect of which was clearly visible in the results. BJP won 8 seats in a Muslim dominated district like Murshidabad, which is considered a stronghold of TMC.

Equation changed in many districts
BJP won 6 seats in Malda. Apart from this, distribution of Muslim votes was also seen in districts like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and West Bardhaman. Experts believe that these two big factors (women and Muslims) went against TMC.

Read this also- How Mamata Banerjee’s fort collapsed in Bengal, from breach in women’s vote bank to polarization of Hindu votes, 5 big factors of losing power

BJP’s victory on key seats
BJP candidate Subrata Maitra won from Muslim dominated Baharampur seat. Apart from this, BJP also won the seats of Khargram, Kandi, Nabagram, Jangipur, Murshidabad, Beldanga and Burwan. BJP’s Amlan Bhaduri won from Malda’s English Bazar seat with a massive victory of 93,784 votes, while Joyel Murmu emerged victorious from Habibpur seat.

Effect of central leadership’s activism
The role of central leadership was also important in BJP’s victory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself campaigned in many areas of West Bengal. Whereas Union Home Minister Amit Shah remained in the state for about 10 days. Many leaders including election in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and Biplab Deb strengthened the party by camping continuously. BJP’s strategy was very active not only at the assembly level but also at the booth level, the benefit of which was clearly visible in the election results.

International Media on Elections: The results of the assembly elections of four states and one union territory in India have attracted the attention of the international media. Major newspapers and media organizations around the world covered these results prominently, with a particular focus on the BJP’s victory in West Bengal and the success of actor Joseph Vijay’s party in Tamil Nadu.

From London to New York and from Islamabad to Dhaka, the international media gave prominent place to the election results. Most reports highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in West Bengal, eroding Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year-old stronghold.

Vijay’s entry became a topic of discussion in Tamil Nadu
The foreign media also gave prominence to Tamil superstar Joseph Vijay, who had formed the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party just two years earlier and ousted the now ruling DMK from power.

BBC report
BBC gave prominence to BJP’s victory in Bengal in its report. The article titled “Modi’s BJP conquers Bengal, one of India’s toughest political frontiers” said that this victory is one of the biggest achievements of Modi’s 12-year tenure. The report said that this is not just the defeat of the three-time government, but a major success for BJP’s expansion in Eastern India.

The Guardian

Britain’s leading newspaper The Guardian also focused on the results of Bengal. The report published titled “Narendra Modi’s BJP wins election in West Bengal for the first time” said that this victory will bring a big change in Indian politics and will prove to be a big blow to the opposition.

New York Times report

America’s New York Times in its report described BJP’s victory as ‘historic’. The report titled “Modi’s Hindu Nationalists Conquer a Bastion of India’s Opposition” said that BJP has created a new history by gaining power in such a big state for the first time. The report also mentioned Vijay’s success in Tamil Nadu and described it as the biggest surprise of the elections.

Washington Post analysis

Washington Post said that victory in Bengal will further strengthen Prime Minister Modi’s position. The report also said that despite forming the government with the help of allies after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this victory will strengthen his political position. Besides, the defeat of the Left government by the Congress led opposition in Kerala was also said to be important.

coverage in pakistan

Pakistan’s newspaper Dawn also published an AFP report, which said that Modi’s party has won in the opposition stronghold of West Bengal. The report said that this victory will strengthen Modi’s position before the 2029 general elections.

Discussion in Bangladesh also
Dhaka Tribune of Bangladesh also published the same report, in which DMK’s defeat in Tamil Nadu and victory of Vijay’s party was described as a big blow. The report said that Chief Minister MK Stalin lost his seat and his party came second.

Election trends of 5 states including West Bengal have come, in which BJP government is clearly visible in three out of 5 states. If we talk about West Bengal, it is certain that Mamata Banerjee, who has been in power here for 15 years, will now lose her seat. According to the trends till 3.30 pm, TMC is leading on 91 seats and BJP is leading on 196 seats. In such a situation, politics regarding Jhalmuri and fish has become heated on social media. Seeing the coming of BJP government, users are now asking whether they will celebrate the victory in Bengal by eating Jhalmuri or Machli Bhaat?

Victory celebration stuck between fish and Jhalmuri?

Actually, all kinds of things are happening on social media regarding West Bengal elections. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen enjoying Jhalmuri during election rallies, many party leaders tried to woo voters by eating fish. In such a situation, the victory celebration is now stuck between these two identities of Bengal. While some people are saying that victory is incomplete without Jhalmuri, some people are saying that the party should now celebrate by throwing a feast of fish and rice. However, some users have also demanded to include Rasgulla in the sweets.

Will a similar gathering of fish and rice be organized after coming to power? pic.twitter.com/9wVBVR1KAl

Jhalmuri and fish factor changed the atmosphere of Bengal?

Now it remains to be seen how BJP celebrates its victory in Bengal. In many videos going viral on social media, Jalebi filtering is definitely seen in the BJP office, but on social media, people are also giving importance to Jhalmuri and Machli Bhaat and saying that these two foods have contributed a lot in this election. Let us tell you that Mamata Banerjee has been ruling West Bengal for the last 15 years, but looking at the election trends of 2026, her departure seems almost certain.

Politics has its place, but the taste of fish has its place. Fresh fish in the plate and the heat of elections in the city… the mood of Bengal is something different. pic.twitter.com/svnwp2H9yf

Users said, Rasgulla should also be there along with Jhalmuri and fish.

While many memes are being made on social media about Jhalmuri, many users are also bringing in the fish factor. But people have not forgotten the most famous sweet of West Bengal, Rasgulla. Users say that when you start feeling spicy after eating Jhalmuri and fish, then definitely take Rasgulla for sweets. Let us tell you that elections were held in Bengal on 23rd and 29th April and the counting of votes is going on on 4th May. Apart from Bengal, BJP is also going to form government in Assam and Puducherry.

In West Bengal, Jhalmuri has now become not just a snack but a political identity. The results of the elections held on 23rd and 29th April appear to be one-sided in favor of BJP on 4th May. BJP, which is leading on 205 seats, is celebrating its victory in different ways at its offices. The video of BJP headquarters in Delhi is going viral on social media in which workers are seen celebrating the victory by distributing Jhalmuri with the common people.

Jhalmuri divided in BJP headquarters on Bengal victory

Let us tell you that BJP has unilaterally ousted Mamata Banerjee’s government, which has been in power in West Bengal for 15 years, and all doors to return to power are currently closed for Mamata Banerjee. In such a situation, BJP seems to be celebrating this huge victory in Bengali style.
