Mamata Banerjee: After the shocking results of West Bengal Assembly elections, the activities of administrative reshuffle intensified. The Governor dissolved the West Bengal Assembly on May 7 and with this, the way for the formation of a new government was also cleared. The name of the new Chief Minister of the state can be approved tomorrow i.e. Saturday, May 9, for which not only West Bengal but the entire country is waiting.

Trinamool Congress, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been in power in Bengal for more than a decade. During this period, party chief Mamata Banerjee remained in the headlines for many reasons. Another thing that was always discussed about him was that he did not take a single rupee salary during his tenure.

It has been said that during the last 15 years in power, he did not take a single rupee salary nor did he avail the benefit of pension as MP and MLA. In such a situation, the question obviously arises that how would he survive without salary or pension while holding such a high position?

In an interview, Mamata Banerjee had revealed that she neither took her salary as Chief Minister nor touched her pension as an MP. His means of earning are book writing, painting and song writing. According to reports, apart from being a politician, Mamata Banerjee has also been a popular writer. She has written more than 100 books. He gets royalty from the books he writes, which is a major source of his income. From this they earn around Rs 10-11 lakh annually.

She also does painting. She donates part of the earnings from this. However, she also keeps some amount for her own needs. She also writes lyrics for songs. The production house for which she writes song lyrics pays her up to Rs 3 lakh annually. This has also been a major source of his income. Didi once said that she is alone so she does not need much money to survive. With the amount they earn, their work can be done comfortably.

How much pension will you get now?

If she chooses to take pension after stepping down from the post of Chief Minister, she will be entitled to multiple pensions and facilities simultaneously. Mamta Banerjee has been a Member of Parliament (MP) seven times, so the largest part of her possible pension will come from this. According to the current rules, former MPs who have held the post for at least five years get a basic pension of Rs 31,000 every month. An additional Rs 2,500 is added for every additional year of service. Considering his long parliamentary career of about 25–30 years, his MP pension alone can be around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh every month.

Apart from her tenure as MP, Banerjee has also been an MLA and Chief Minister. Under West Bengal rules, former MLAs get pension based on their salary structure, which is currently around Rs 1.21 lakh per month. However, the method of pension calculation may differ. As a former Chief Minister, he is also entitled to lifetime benefits, including medical facilities, Z+ security, staff and government accommodation.

Rules for more than one pension

Generally, people who have served as both MP and MLA can choose one pension – usually the higher pension. Banerjee has had a long tenure as MP, so probably her pension will be the highest. If he decides to accept this pension, he will get an amount of more than Rs 1 lakh every month. Besides, the facilities provided as a former Chief Minister will also be available throughout life.
