Manav Suthar has performed a historic feat in his Test debut match. In the first match against Afghanistan, he created history by taking 5 wickets. Suthar is the 10th Indian bowler to have taken a 5-wicket haul on his Test debut. He took 6 wickets for 33 runs in the first innings against Afghanistan.

He has made a place in the list of great bowlers who bowled with the best figures in Test debut innings. But his most special record is that he is only the second cricketer in the 21st century to take a 5-wicket haul in his debut innings.

History created in the 21st century

So far in the 21st century, only two Indian bowlers have taken 5 or more wickets in their debut Test innings. The first Indian to do so in this century was Amit Mishra, who took 5 wickets for 71 runs in his debut innings against Australia. After 18 years, Manav Suthar has taken a 5-wicket haul in his Test debut innings.

Apart from Amit Mishra and Manav Suthar, all the Indian bowlers who took 5-wicket haul in their Test debut innings had achieved this position in the 20th century.

Narendra Hirwani had created history on his Test debut. He is the only Indian so far, who took eight wickets each in both the innings of the debut test match. He took a total of 16 wickets in that match. The world record for taking most wickets in a debut test match is also in the name of Narendra Hirwani. Apart from him, Australia’s Bob Massey took 16 wickets in his debut test against Australia in 1972.
