Actually, after the 1965 war, Lal Bahadur Shastri saw Manoj Kumar’s film Shaheed. Impressed by this film made on Bhagat Singh, he said that his slogans should be made a film about Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan. Manoj Kumar took it very seriously and wrote the entire film on the train while returning from Delhi to Mumbai.

Manoj Kumar was born in Abbottabad, Pakistan. After independence, his family settled in Delhi. Manoj Kumar had a strong spirit of patriotism in his mind and he also made many films on patriotism. Manoj Kumar gave great films like Shaheed, East and West, Kranti, Upkar to Bollywood.

Manoj Kumar was not only a patriot but also a true friend. Once, when Amitabh Bachchan had made up his mind to leave Mumbai, disappointed with flop films, Manoj Kumar had stopped him. In the year 1974, Manoj Kumar also gave Amitabh a chance in his film Roti, Cloth and House and this film proved to be a hit.

Manoj Kumar was also known for his fearlessness. Manoj Kumar openly opposed the government in the era of Emergency. When the government asked Manoj Kumar to make a Pro Emergency Documentary, he refused. After this, his film Das Nambari was banned.

Manoj Kumar was not afraid of this ban and went to court against the government. Manoj Kumar won his case and released the film. This was a very fearless step at that time.
