Margashirsha Amavasya falls in the month of November-December. It is also called Aghan Amavasya. On this date, many measures are taken especially for the peace of the souls of the ancestors and for freedom from Pitra Dosh.

This year, Margashirsha Amavasya Tithi will start from 09:43 am on 19th November and will continue till 12:16 pm on 20th November. According to Udayatithi, Margashirsha Amavasya will be valid only on Thursday 20th November 2025.

Since it is Thursday, the importance of worshiping ancestors as well as Lord Vishnu on Margashirsha Amavasya will increase. On this holy date, you can do some important work to get the blessings of your ancestors.

If there is Pitra Dosh in the horoscope, then on Margashirsha Amavasya, take bath and perform Shraddha and Tarpan of the ancestors. Do charity and feed food to Brahmins.

It is believed that ancestors reside in the Peepal tree. Therefore, on Margashirsha Amavasya, light a mustard oil lamp under the Peepal tree in the evening. After this, circumambulate the tree 5-7 times. Through this also one gets the blessings of the ancestors.

To get the blessings of ancestors on Aghaan Amavasya, feed animals and birds like cows, crows and dogs and donate food and clothes to the needy. This also reduces Pitra Dosh and removes the troubles of life.
