Goa is a small coastal state of India, which has always been a center of attraction for foreign empires due to its port, commercial importance and Portuguese rule, but history is a witness to the fact that it was not possible for both the Mughals and the British to enslave Goa.

The history of Goa has been under the Portuguese since the 16th century. In 1510, Portugal captured Goa and made it its colonial center. Most of the Mughals had an extension of their administration and control over most parts of India, but Goa was safe in the hands of the Portuguese.

The Mughals tried to put political and economic pressure several times, but Goa did not come under their control due to marine power and European strategic technology.

Goa remained independent even during British rule. From the 17th to 19th century the British East India Company won the business and administrative dominance in the Indian subcontinent, but the Goa Portuguese was captured and the British could not directly control it.

There were also several treaties between the British and Portugal, in which the protected area of ​​Goa Portugal remained. This is the reason that Goa neither came under the Mughals nor under the British.

Goa’s geographical location, sea power, and Portuguese administrative policies kept it out of control for both empires. Portugal developed its administration, culture and education system in Goa, making Goa a distinct identity.

India became independent in 1947, but Goa was still under Portuguese rule. India included Goa in the Indian Union in 1961 through armed military campaign Operation Vijay.
