National Overseas Scholarship India : Every year lakhs of students dream of going abroad to study. Getting admission in a good university, studying in a new country and building a better career all seem like big opportunities, but the biggest obstacle standing in the way of this dream is often money. Many times, capable and hardworking students are left behind simply because they do not have enough resources to bear the expenses of studying abroad. To overcome this problem, the Government of India runs many scholarship schemes. One of these important schemes is National Overseas Scholarship (NOS). Under which 125 scholarships are given every year. This scheme has been specially designed for the students of economically weaker and backward classes, so that they can also pursue higher education abroad.

What is National Overseas Scholarship?

National Overseas Scholarship is run under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Its main objective is to help those students who come from socially and economically weaker sections and want to study abroad. This scholarship is given only for postgraduate (Master’s) and PhD studies.

Who can apply?

Not everyone can take advantage of this scholarship. It has been made for special classes. This includes Scheduled Caste (SC) students, denotified, nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes, families of landless agricultural laborers and families of traditional artisans. Some important conditions have also been fixed for this scheme. In which the candidate must have at least 60 percent marks. The maximum age to apply should be 35 years. Also, the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 8 lakh. The student must have taken admission or have an offer in a recognized university abroad.

2. Register there and create a login ID.

3. Fill your personal and educational information.

4. Now upload the required documents, like caste certificate, income certificate, educational certificate, admission proof.

5. Submit the form after filling all the information correctly.

When does the selection process take place?

Selection for this scholarship is done twice a year. In which the first phase is held in February-March and if seats are left, the second phase is held in September-October. Students who are already admitted in top ranked universities are given priority.

How many scholarships are available?

A total of 125 scholarships are given every year, which includes 115 scholarships for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, 6 scholarships for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes and 4 scholarships for landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisan families. Apart from this, 30 percent seats are reserved for women. If sufficient women candidates are not found, these seats can be given to other eligible candidates.

What expenses are included in this scholarship?

The biggest feature of this scheme is that it covers almost the entire education expenses. This scholarship includes full tuition fees, stipend for accommodation and meals, contingency grant for academic needs, visa fees, medical insurance, round trip air tickets. This help frees students from financial burden, so that they can concentrate completely on their studies.
