The cricket world has once again become embarrassed due to the match fixing incident. This time an incident of match fixing has come to light in Indian domestic cricket. On Friday, Assam Cricket Association Secretary Sanatan Das told the media that four players have been suspended with immediate effect. The names of these four players are Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri.

Sanatan Das told that these 4 players were involved in corruption related activities in cricket. This matter is of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.

Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Secretary Sanatan Das said in his statement, “These 4 cricketers, who have represented Assam at different levels. These 4 players are accused of influencing and instigating some players who played for Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. As soon as these allegations came to light, the Anti-Corruption Unit of BCCI investigated the matter. ACA has also started criminal proceedings.”

ACA said that it has also lodged an FIR in the Crime Branch of Guwahati against four players involved in match fixing. Meanwhile, according to Times of India, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has warned the players involved in such activities. Saikia clearly said that such actions will not be tolerated at all.

Assam team was placed in Elite Group A of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. India’s star cricketer Ryan Parag also plays in this team. The Assam team could register only three wins in 7 matches and stood 7th among the eight teams included in its group. How did the match fixing scandal start?

In the year 2000, Delhi Police taped a suspicious phone call during its routine security check. This call was of a conversation between the then South African captain Hansie Cronje and a bookie. When the police recorded this conversation, match fixing was revealed. Clear information was received in the call as to how the players will take the money and play in the prescribed manner, how many runs will be scored as per the set score, and what will be the team’s strategy. When Delhi Police made this recording public, after this revelation the ICC and all the national cricket boards decided to further tighten the anti-corruption rules.

Hansie Cronje initially denied the allegations, but later admitted that he fixed matches by taking money from bookies. After this confession, he was banned from cricket for life. Hansie Cronje died in a plane crash in 2002.

Which Indian players’ names came out?

As new revelations continued to emerge, the Indian cricket team also came under suspicion. The case was handed over to CBI, in which the names of many Indian players came to light. These included Ajay Jadeja, Mohammad Azharuddin, Manoj Prabhakar and Ajay Sharma. Cricket fans were surprised when the names of such big players came forward.

After investigation, Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma were banned for life. Whereas Ajay Jadeja and Manoj Prabhakar were banned for five years each. Although all the players were banned from playing cricket, no legal case was registered.

What were the changes in cricket rules?

Strict monitoring of players: During matches or tournaments, their movements and suspicious calls started being monitored.

Former cricketer Yograj Singh has once again come into the limelight. Now he has accused Kapil Dev, former captain of the Indian cricket team, of the match -fixing (Kapil Dev Match Fixing). First Kapil Dev’s name came, then Mohammad Azharuddin and many other players. Why the file of that case was closed and why the file was not opened. Accusing Kapil Dev, Manoj Prabhakar revealed in 1997 that Kapil Dev had offered him money to play slow. The case was investigated by the CBI, which in his report had told that there was no strong evidence of match fixing against Kapil Dev. At the same time, BCCI formed the Chandrachud Committee to investigate the matter, which submitted its report in the year 2000, allegedly stated that there was no concrete reason why Manoj Prabhakar had to wait for several years to report the allegations of match fixing.

Yograj Singh has also targeted Kapil Dev earlier. Last year, he claimed to threaten to kill Kapil Dev when he was out of the Indian squad.

During this conversation, the person who described himself as a bookie shared his WhatsApp number. He promised to pay immediately in cash or US dollars. He also said that after the match, he and his companions will be present on the field to give their share to the players. ACU handed it over to the Lucknow Police as evidence.

Lucknow police registered FIR

According to the Times of India, DCP Nipun Agarwal said that a case has been registered under dishonest, illegal betting and other cybercrime laws. It was also told that the accused may have been associated with other people, who tried to fix the match earlier in the tournament.

The UP T20 League started on August 17 and now on 6 September, the final match will be played between Meerut Mevrix and Kashi Rudraj.
