Medha patkar: There was an uproar in the Parliamentary Committee of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj today (July 01, 2025). BJP MPs created a ruckus over the call of social activist Medha Patkar before the committee, due to which the meeting was postponed. In this meeting, the issue related to land acquisition and compensation was to be discussed.

According to sources, during today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of the Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, some NGOs were called along with the Tribal Affair and the Ministry of Environment, including 10 people including Medha Patkar, Prakash Raj.

‘Call PM of Pakistan’

According to sources, BJP MPs created a ruckus that Medha Patkar is anti -national. If they want to call them, then call the PM of Pakistan. BJP MPs said that by removing Medha Patkar and everyone else can be heard. After this uproar, 11 BJP MPs boycot, after which only 6 members survived in the committee and after that the officials of the ministry who were present there also went out, saying that quorum is not complete.

The meeting could not be held due to workouts

Committee chairman Satyapati Ulaka said that the meeting could not be held due to the workouts of BJP MPs and this is not the first time that Medha Patkar has been called for a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee. The chairman of the committee said that BJP MPs were adamant on the fact that Medha Patkar is an anti -country and he should not be invited to the Parliamentary Committee. Ola said that he will put his point in front of the Lok Sabha regarding this matter.

Delhi high court: Delhi High Court has given Lieutenant Governor V.K. Notice has been issued to Saxena. This notice has been issued on the petition of social worker and leader of Narmada Bachao Andolan, Medha Patkar, in which he sought permission to investigate a new witness in his defamation case filed in 2000.

Trial court turned down demand for new witness, challenge in Delhi High Court

The case began when Medha Patkar accused LG Saxena that he had published an advertisement against him allegedly defamation against him while being the head of an NGO in Gujarat. The trial court on March 18 rejected the demand for a new witness of Medhapatkar, saying that the case has been pending for 24 years and already all the witnesses have been completed. The court also said that if such new witnesses are added to the cases, then the lawsuits will never end. Patkar challenged this decision in the High Court, after which the High Court issued a notice to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and sought a reply.

Lt. Governor’s lawyer alleged -Conspiracy to delay the process

Medha Patkar filed an application in Saket Court on February 17 seeking permission to check Nandita Narayan as an additional witness. He said that this witness can highlight important facts related to the case. However, Saxena’s lawyer opposed this, saying that this petition has been filed only after 24 years to prolong the trial process, which is like obstructing justice.

Legal battle continues since 2000

This legal battle started in 2000 when Patkar filed a defamation case against Saxena. At that time Saxena was the head of Ahmedabad -based NGO Council for Civil Liberty. In response, in 2001, LGV Saxena also filed two defamation cases against Medha Patkar. The first case was for making alleged derogatory remarks against him on a television channel and the second case was for issuing a defamatory press statement.

Next hearing in Delhi High Court on 20 May

The Delhi High Court has not yet stayed the trial court proceedings and the next hearing has been fixed on May 20. Now it has to be seen what decision the High Court gives further in this matter.
