When India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, New Delhi maintained diplomatic contacts with Washington in many ways. During this, talks were held with the Trump administration through security, trade, political and media channels.

According to India Today report, from late April to October 2025, Indian officials appealed for continuous phone calls, meetings and briefings with senior American officials. On April 24, 2025, India appealed for talks with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick and the office of Vice President JD Vance. Through these, efforts were made to take trade related discussions forward as quickly as possible.

Talks continued amid Operation Sindoor
Despite the start of Operation Vermillion, trade talks continued till early May. On May 7, the day the operation began, the Indian Embassy in Washington called Brett Baier of Fox News for an interview, in which Operation Sindoor was clearly mentioned. President Trump and his senior advisers keep a close eye on Fox News and contact with the channel is seen as a way to influence things inside the White House.

By the end of May, India started giving information to the US National Security Establishment. On May 27, Indian officials appealed to US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and the Deputy Secretary of Defense for a meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. On May 31, Indian officials in Washington DC appealed to meet Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Such efforts are often made to resolve differences between multiple agencies.

Jaishankar meets Vance and Rubio
India appealed for a meeting of Vice President JD Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on June 1. Apart from this, India also maintained contact with Capitol Hill. Business talks continued amid discussion of Operation Sindoor in Washington. Records show that there were repeated conversations between Indian officials and US Trade Representative Greer and Commerce Secretary Latnick during May, June and July 2025. By August, trade related discussions became more intense.

India appealed to Finance Minister Scott Besant for talks, which brought the Finance Department into the talks which were previously focused only on the Department of Trade and Commerce. In September and October 2025, Indian officials met with several people close to President Trump, including White House communications assistants and senior political advisers.

Operation Vermillion disappeared from Washington’s debate
The Indian Embassy in Washington DC was contacted for comment on these matters, but they did not respond. Despite months of negotiations, India received continued tariff shocks and public condemnation from the White House. This is in sharp contrast to President Trump’s first term, when such differences rarely surfaced publicly. Negotiations continued until the end of October 2025, while Operation Vermillion largely disappeared from public debate in Washington.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to why women journalists were excluded from the press conference during the visit of Taliban representative to India. He said in one of his tweets on Priyanka reminded that the women of India are the backbone and pride of the country.

Priyanka Gandhi wrote, “Prime Minister, please clarify what is your position regarding the removal of women journalists from the Taliban representative’s press conference. Women’s rights are not just election postering.”

What did Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha say?

Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha said the move has not only affected India’s moral and diplomatic standing, but is also a serious blow to India’s long-standing commitment to press freedom, gender justice and equality.

Manoj Kumar Jha said, “This is not just a formal lapse, but a symbolic compromise of India’s long-standing commitments to equality and women’s participation. This incident is disappointing and politically blind for the world’s largest democratic power and a country that promotes women’s participation.”

She also said that such a move sends a wrong message to Indian women and the global community that convenience and immediate benefits can be given priority over principles.

What was the matter?

Let us tell you that no female journalist was allowed to attend the press conference held on Friday, after which this policy of Taliban was sharply criticized on social media. Many journalists and social media users gave their reaction on this matter.

Ever since US President Donald Trump has announced a 50 per cent tariff on India, many such reports have come out that India has stopped the defense deal with the US. Sources in the Indian Ministry of Defense have dismissed such reports and termed them as false and fabricated.

According to sources in the Ministry of Defense, various matters of procurement are being carried forward according to the current processes. An international media institute claimed in its report that India had postponed its new defense procurement plans. This news came in the midst of increasing tension in the two countries after the US has imposed tariffs on India.

Trump first imposed 25 percent tariff on India

Donald Trump had announced a 25 percent recipes on India last week, which came into effect from 7 August. Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday, under which 25 percent additional fee has been imposed by India on the purchase of Russian oil, which increased the total fee to 50 percent.

A total of 50 percent tariff imposed on India is the highest fee levied by the US on any country in the world. The additional 25 percent fee on India will be applicable after 21 days i.e. from August 27.

The motive behind imposing so much tariff on India

The motive behind imposing so much tariff on India is believed that Trump wants India to compromise with America regarding agriculture and dairy sector. The Indian market should be opened for America’s dairy products, but India is not ready for it. A clear message has been given to America from India on this issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday (August 7, 2025) that farmers are the first for the country. There will be no compromise on issues related to them.

With the increase in sales of smartphones in the last few years, the time to be spent on them has also increased. The period of content related to entertainment on smartphones is also increasing continuously. The major reason for this is the cheap internet in the country. Last year in India, people have collectively spent about 1.1 lakh crore hours on their smartphones.

Annual Entertainment of Consultancy Firm Ey Report It has been told that people spend an average of five hours per day on the screen of their smartphones. About 70 percent of these views social media platforms, gaming and videos. This has made the country’s biggest segment for the first time in the country’s media and entertainment industry for the first time in the entertainment industry. However, the people of Indonesia and Brazil are ahead of Indians in spending time on smartphones per day. The total time spent on smartphones due to a large population in India makes it the largest market in the world.

Along with American companies like Amazon and Meta, Reliance Jio of Mukesh Ambani is also trying to increase its share in this market. About 56.2 million people in the country use smartphones. This is more than the total population of the US and Mexico. Last year, 5G subscriptions increased to about 27 crores more than doubled. 40 percent of the Internet subscribers in the country are in rural areas.

This report states that there has been a decrease in revenue and market share of the main traditional media industry of television, print and radio. Live events like cricket tournaments and concerts have increased in the growth of media and entertainment industry. However, the country’s smartphone market has declined in January this year. Weak demand behind this and the main reasons for the last year’s inventory are the main reasons. American devices maker Apple has gained strong growth on a year-on-year basis in January. In the last few years, Apple sales and manufacturing have increased rapidly in the country. According to the report of the Market Research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), the shipments of smartphone companies in January have been around 1.11 million units. This is a decrease of about 9.7 percent compared to the same month of last year. The smartphone market was also reduced in the fourth quarter of last year. <!--
