If you are interested in medical studies, then this news is special for you. NMC has given permission to increase MBBS seats, which means now some medical colleges will be able to give admission to more students than before. This step has been taken to overcome the shortage of doctors and to give opportunity to more students.

What decision did NMC take?

The National Medical Commission has decided to relax the intake rules of MBBS seats for 2026-27. According to the old rules, the maximum limit of colleges was fixed, but now the college which fulfills the required rules, regulations, faculty and resources can increase the seats up to 250. Apart from this, NMC has also made it clear that permission to increase seats will be given in a phased manner. The inspection process will be made more strict and transparent than before, so that there is no compromise in the quality of education in the colleges which But if there is any reduction or penalty already applicable, they will not be allowed to increase their seats.

How many seats will increase?

Till now, MBBS seats were limited in many medical colleges, but according to the new guidelines, colleges can increase the seats from 150 to 200 or maximum 250 depending on their capacity, however this increase will be possible only when the colleges fulfill all the standards of NMC.

Why was this decision taken

The number of doctors in India is still less than required, especially in rural and remote areas. With a view to overcome this shortage, NMC has decided to expand MBBS seats so that more medical graduates can be produced in the coming years.

What will be the benefit for the students?

With this decision, NEET UG students will get a big benefit. With the increase in seats, the chances of admission in MBBS will increase, the pressure of competition will reduce to some extent and more students will be able to fulfill their dream of becoming a doctor.

How can you apply?

Medical colleges which want to increase MBBS seats or want to open a new medical college will have to visit the official website of NMC. The college will have to fill the online application form, in which all the necessary information will have to be entered correctly. Necessary documents related to the application will have to be uploaded online. The prescribed application fee will have to be paid through online mode. This entire application process will have to be completed between 29 December 2025 and 28 January 2026. After submission of application within the deadline, scrutiny of documents and further process will be started by NMC.

After the formation of the new government in Bihar, the pace of administrative decisions has increased rapidly. In this sequence, the newly appointed Health Minister of the state, Mangal Pandey, after assuming office on Tuesday, made several important announcements to strengthen the health services. He clarified that the recruitment process for more than 33 thousand long pending posts in the Health Department will be completed in the coming days.

Mangal Pandey said that the recruitment process for about 26 thousand posts in the department has reached the final stage. He said that these appointments will be completed soon, which will remove the huge shortage of personnel in hospitals. Along with this, the plan to appoint 7,600 additional posts under the National Health Mission (NHM) will also be implemented soon. According to the minister, this step will provide new strength to the health system of the state.

Three new medical colleges will soon start in the state – Mangal Pandey

Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that the priority of the new government is to improve the quality and availability of health services. He said that it is the main responsibility of the government to provide quality treatment to rural and remote areas. In this direction, giving great relief to the youth of the state, he announced that next year three new medical colleges will start functioning in the state, Vaishali, Siwan and Bhojpur. With their commencement, medical education will get a boost and the number of doctors in the state will increase significantly.

Modern facilities will be available in hospitals – Minister

The minister also said that the government will now pay special attention to the comprehensive upgradation of health infrastructure. Work will be expedited on improving the condition of primary health centres, increasing the appointment of specialist doctors and providing modern facilities in hospitals. He said that plans are also being prepared to expand super specialty services, modernize hospitals and strengthen emergency services.

The efficiency of the health department will increase

According to the information, due to slow pace of recruitment processes in the last few years, a large number of candidates were waiting for appointments. Minister Pandey said that due to the decisions of the new government, there will be a big improvement in this situation and the working capacity of the health department will increase. He expressed confidence that in the coming months, concrete changes will be felt in the health services of the state and Bihar will move towards a new direction in the health sector.

This is important news for medical candidates. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has stated the possibility of adding about 8000 new seats for MBBS and PG courses in the year 2025. According to media reports, Dr. Abhijeet Shet, chairperson of NMC, said that the inspection work of medical colleges is going on fast and these additional seats will be made available soon. In such a situation, this can be a great opportunity for the candidates preparing for NEET-UG or PG.

When will counseling be held?
According to NMC, about 8000 seats can be increased in medical UG and PG. The counseling process of NEET UG 2025 has started and the first round has been completed. Now the second round is likely to start from August 25.

PG counseling is likely to start from September as medical colleges are being inspected. So if you are waiting for counseling then be ready, because the increase in seats will increase the chances of selection.

How many seats are there in India?

Currently there are more than 1 lakh medical seats in the country. A total of 1,18,098 seats in MBBS, of which 59,782 are in government colleges and 58,316 in private colleges. A total of 53,960 seats in PG, of which 30,029 are from government and 23,931 private colleges. This year, some UG seats were reduced due to the CBI investigation, but NMC says that the number of seats may increase to 8,000 or more after the completion of the inspection.

Why CBI investigation was done

In July, the CBI had registered a case of corruption and rules violation on the Ministry of Health NMC officials and some private medical colleges, due to which the process of starting new courses and increasing seats was stopped, although NMC has now accelerated the speed of inspection, according to NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijeet Shet, according to NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijeet Shet, about 8,000 new seats will be added soon. This news is a big relief for those students who were worried about the possibility of lower seats.

Changes in medical education

New seats will be added. There will be focus on quality. The number of medical colleges has increased rapidly in the last few years. Since 2014, the number of colleges has almost doubled. Although increasing the number is not enough, the quality of studies is equally important. For this reason, NMC is now checking faculty, infrastructure and clinical facilities in colleges.

The journey of medical education in India has been very interesting and inspiring. The modern medical system we see today, its roots are centuries old. From the time of Charak and Sushruta to Ayurveda, Siddha and Greek methods, its own stream of treatment continued to flow. But with the arrival of the British period, there was a big change in medical education and treatment method, which gave a new direction to the dreams of becoming a doctor in India.

India’s first MBBS batch passed in 1839. Let us know how the medical education system has changed over time. At the time of Charak and Sushruta in India, treatment was done with indigenous medical practices like Ayurveda, Siddha and Greek, which were quite popular at that time. But during the British period, medical training started through Western treatment method.

Start of formation of medical board

In the year 1822, the Medical Board of British Surgeons wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Government of India, recommending to start a systematic medical education system for Indians. Its purpose was to maintain public health and prepare a qualified medical staff for the British East India Company.

Why was there a need for change?

British did not rely on the traditional medical system of Indians. For this reason, he brought a doctor from Europe. The European company surgeons were mostly busy with military services in the continuous wars in the middle of the 18th century. In such a situation, Indian soldiers admitted to East India Company started getting treatment from British surgeons.

An interesting aspect was also that many upper caste soldiers were hesitant to take European medicines. The reason for this was religious beliefs and mistrust on the new method. Despite this, gradually the Western medical system began to spread in India and a new chapter of medical education started, which gave birth to a new generation of doctors in the future.

Dream of becoming a doctor abroad

A few years later, four brave youths, Bhola Nath Bose, Dwarka Nath Bose and Gopal Chander crossed the sea and went abroad with a dream of becoming a doctor. At that time, going abroad, especially for studies, was full of social and cultural challenges. But these youths showed courage and brought Indian medical education to the international stage.

Former Amethi MP and BJP leader Smriti Irani made a big statement about Rahul Gandhi and Amethi elections in a special conversation with Aaj Tak News Channel. He said that in 2024, the Gandhi family refused to fight me. He also mentioned the work done in Amethi.

Smriti spoke about Rahul Gandhi- no need to be aggressive now
Smriti Irani said that now Rahul Gandhi is no longer the responsibility of being aggressive, because in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Gandhi family refused to contest from Amethi against me. He said, ‘He did not even land in front of me in Maidan-e-Jung, I cannot run after him.’

Mention of Amethi’s political legacy and history
The former MP said that we have read political history, many legendary elections from Amethi have contested and lost. Famous leaders like Sharad Yadav and Maneka Gandhi have also lost from there. He said that the Gandhi family chose a seat like Amethi, because the social equation there lived in his favor. In such a situation, no intelligent leader will choose a seat where the defeat is certain. If someone is given such a seat, then he accepts it under the responsibility of the party.

Mention of work done from 2014 to 2019
Smriti Irani said that even though she lost the election to Amethi in 2014, she did a lot of work there from 2014 to 2019. For this reason, people had a feeling that they should be given a chance. He said, ‘If people say that I did not work for Amethi, then it would have been more sad. But today it is discussed that I have done a lot of work there. I used to live in Amethi, house-to-house, village-village, street and street, cleaned the drain, delivered electricity to the village, built one lakh houses, made medical colleges.

This thing said about defeat in Amethi
When he was asked why the people of Amethi did not win him, he clearly said that there is a difference between work and political equation. Those who are in politics, they understand this. He said, ‘Politics has nothing to do with the national policy, I am involved in the national policy.’

‘I have defeated Rahul Gandhi, I am ready to bear Tanj’- Smriti
Smriti Irani said, ‘I have defeated Rahul Gandhi, so I will have to bear a lot of stance.’ She said that she did not live life subtle. He believes that if life is seen from the same aspect, then it did not live. The former MP said that she came into national politics because she felt that there are many such things in the society, which is necessary to bring people attention through politics or through media.
