Every student dreams of becoming a doctor. But now the question arises that if you want to study medicine, then in India or abroad? Especially how much difference is there in fees and expenses in the top medical institutions of Canada and India. Let us know in detail in this report.

Whenever there is talk of any popular country for higher education, the name of Canada definitely comes in it. More than four lakh Indian students are studying here. Most of the Indian students take admission in engineering, management and computer science courses here. But Canada is also popular for medical studies, because many of the top medical universities here are famous all over the world.

Medical studies are very popular in India also. Every year thousands of students go abroad to pursue MBBS. But now the question arises that where is education expensive and where is it cheap, and what is the difference in salary after becoming a doctor.

india vs canada

In India, admission can be taken directly in MBBS after 12th. The duration of this course is 5.5 years, which also includes one year compulsory internship. To become a doctor in Canada, one has to do four years of graduation after 12th. After this one has to give MCAT entrance exam. If successful, one gets admission in MD (Doctor of Medicine) course, which is of four years. Overall, MBBS degree of India and MD degree of Canada are almost similar.

Top Medical Institute

Toronto University has been considered number one for medical studies in Canada. Whereas in India, studies at AIIMS Delhi are considered to be the most prestigious in the country.

fee comparison

The annual fee for the MD course of the University of Toronto in Canada is approximately 1 lakh Canadian dollars, which is approximately 63.5 lakh rupees in rupees. Health insurance is also included in this. The annual cost for books and resources will be around Rs 6.3 lakh and the living expenses will be around Rs 11 lakh. In such a situation, the total expenditure of one year comes to approximately Rs 81 lakh. Since the MD course is of four years, the total cost to become a doctor will be around Rs 3.24 crore.

MBBS fees in AIIMS Delhi is very low in India. Academic fees include registration fee of Rs 25, caution money of Rs 100, tuition fee of Rs 1350, lab charge of Rs 90 and student union fee of Rs 63. The total fee including hostel and other expenses is approximately Rs 4228. If seen, education in India is very economical as compared to Canada.

Also read – From buffalo grazing girl to IAS officer, C Vanmati overcame all difficulties and cracked UPSC.

difference in salary

The average annual salary of doctors in Canada is approximately Rs 1.43 crore. Entry level doctors earn around Rs 54 lakh every year, while experienced doctors can earn Rs 2.77 crore annually.
In India, entry level MBBS graduates get a salary of Rs 25 thousand to Rs 70 thousand per month. Experienced doctors can earn up to Rs 1.5 lakh per month and senior doctors can earn up to Rs 3 lakh per month. That means, the starting salary of a doctor in Canada is many times higher than that in India.

This is important news for medical candidates. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has stated the possibility of adding about 8000 new seats for MBBS and PG courses in the year 2025. According to media reports, Dr. Abhijeet Shet, chairperson of NMC, said that the inspection work of medical colleges is going on fast and these additional seats will be made available soon. In such a situation, this can be a great opportunity for the candidates preparing for NEET-UG or PG.

When will counseling be held?
According to NMC, about 8000 seats can be increased in medical UG and PG. The counseling process of NEET UG 2025 has started and the first round has been completed. Now the second round is likely to start from August 25.

PG counseling is likely to start from September as medical colleges are being inspected. So if you are waiting for counseling then be ready, because the increase in seats will increase the chances of selection.

How many seats are there in India?

Currently there are more than 1 lakh medical seats in the country. A total of 1,18,098 seats in MBBS, of which 59,782 are in government colleges and 58,316 in private colleges. A total of 53,960 seats in PG, of which 30,029 are from government and 23,931 private colleges. This year, some UG seats were reduced due to the CBI investigation, but NMC says that the number of seats may increase to 8,000 or more after the completion of the inspection.

Why CBI investigation was done

In July, the CBI had registered a case of corruption and rules violation on the Ministry of Health NMC officials and some private medical colleges, due to which the process of starting new courses and increasing seats was stopped, although NMC has now accelerated the speed of inspection, according to NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijeet Shet, according to NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijeet Shet, about 8,000 new seats will be added soon. This news is a big relief for those students who were worried about the possibility of lower seats.

Changes in medical education

New seats will be added. There will be focus on quality. The number of medical colleges has increased rapidly in the last few years. Since 2014, the number of colleges has almost doubled. Although increasing the number is not enough, the quality of studies is equally important. For this reason, NMC is now checking faculty, infrastructure and clinical facilities in colleges.

The journey of medical education in India has been very interesting and inspiring. The modern medical system we see today, its roots are centuries old. From the time of Charak and Sushruta to Ayurveda, Siddha and Greek methods, its own stream of treatment continued to flow. But with the arrival of the British period, there was a big change in medical education and treatment method, which gave a new direction to the dreams of becoming a doctor in India.

India’s first MBBS batch passed in 1839. Let us know how the medical education system has changed over time. At the time of Charak and Sushruta in India, treatment was done with indigenous medical practices like Ayurveda, Siddha and Greek, which were quite popular at that time. But during the British period, medical training started through Western treatment method.

Start of formation of medical board

In the year 1822, the Medical Board of British Surgeons wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Government of India, recommending to start a systematic medical education system for Indians. Its purpose was to maintain public health and prepare a qualified medical staff for the British East India Company.

Why was there a need for change?

British did not rely on the traditional medical system of Indians. For this reason, he brought a doctor from Europe. The European company surgeons were mostly busy with military services in the continuous wars in the middle of the 18th century. In such a situation, Indian soldiers admitted to East India Company started getting treatment from British surgeons.

An interesting aspect was also that many upper caste soldiers were hesitant to take European medicines. The reason for this was religious beliefs and mistrust on the new method. Despite this, gradually the Western medical system began to spread in India and a new chapter of medical education started, which gave birth to a new generation of doctors in the future.

Dream of becoming a doctor abroad

A few years later, four brave youths, Bhola Nath Bose, Dwarka Nath Bose and Gopal Chander crossed the sea and went abroad with a dream of becoming a doctor. At that time, going abroad, especially for studies, was full of social and cultural challenges. But these youths showed courage and brought Indian medical education to the international stage.
