Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly increasing its interference in every field today. The medical sector is also not left from this. While AI is considered to be the future of diagnosis and disease management, a new study published in the LANCET journal has pointed to a serious threat. According to this report, the dependence on AI-based tools can weaken the skills of doctors. That is, the technique with which the treatment of patients should be easy, can also gradually eliminate the capacity of doctors.

Doctors affect skills

The study made at four colonoscopy centers in Poland found that AI assisted diagnosis declined by the ‘Adenoma Detection Rate’ of doctors (adenoma detection rate ie diseases like cancer). According to the data, where the adenoma was being detected in 28 cases without the help of AI earlier, it was reduced to 22 percent after depending on AI. That is, a reduction of about 20 percent. This means that doctors can lose their clinical judgment and diagnosis capacity by constantly depending on AI.

Why is this danger happening?

Experts believe that when a doctor gets constant solution and decorations, their ability to think and analyze themselves decreases. This situation in the health sector is even more dangerous, because the wrong diagnosis here can have a direct impact on the patient’s life. Researchers say that if this trend increases, in the coming time, doctors will depend only on AI and their own professional skills will fall behind.

What are experts saying?

Dr. Marsin Rauomarsxic of Poland involved in the study says that we have to understand which factors are increasing this problem. At the same time, Professor Yuchi Mori of the University of Oslo said that if the doctors use AI continuously, then they themselves can be less motivated, less focused and less responsible. That is, instead of saving the lives of patients, doctors will close their eyes on technology and start trusting.

Big alarm for india

In countries like India, where there is already a lack of doctors and health infrastructure, more dependence on AI can make the situation even more difficult. Dr. Vidur Mahajan, who is the CEO of Carpl.AI, says that we have to pay attention to both the advantages and disadvantages of increasing use of AI. It is necessary to adopt AI technology, but at the same time doctors’ training and practical skills have to be strengthened.

This report of the Lancet is a major warning that if AI is not used in a balanced manner, then the skills of doctors in the health sector can gradually end. It is necessary to use AI as an assistant and not to be completely dependent. Otherwise, the day is not far when doctors will only work on the decisions of machines and the lives of patients will be in danger.

Uterine Cancer: A new report has revealed that many women suffering from uterine cancer are not being properly examined by a genetic condition called Linch syndrome. This condition increases the risk of not only uterus, but also to intestinal cancer.

Lynch syndrome: severe but unseen danger

Lynch syndrome affects one of every 300 person, but surprisingly only 5% of people know about it. This is a genetic condition that makes the person more sensitive to cancer of the uterus and colon (large intestine).

Life can be found on time with time

Experts from the University of Edinburgh say that due to the timely identification of this syndrome, patients can improve their health and take necessary steps to prevent cancer. Also, the expenditure on treatment can also be reduced to a great extent.

Flaws of investigation system found in research

According to the research published in the BMG Oncology Journal, more than 2,500 uterine cancer cases were research in the UK and Ireland between 2022 and 2023. It was found that in 91% of cases, tumors were examined for symptoms of lynch syndrome, but the results of the investigation did not reach the entire team of doctors. As a result, the process of essential genetic counseling and blood test remained incomplete.

Incomplete procedure, incomplete identity

Of the patients who needed genetic counseling, only two-thirds were sent for this, and only 48% of the patients could be examined due to the long waiting list. The direct effect of this was that in many patients, lynch syndrome could not be identified and their risk of cancer was increased.

Awareness and better arrangement needed

Dr. Neel Ryan, Clinical Lecturer of Center for Reproductive Health, University of Edinburgh said, “Despite the good guidelines and check rates, the whole process becomes useless if the patients are not sent on time for a blood test. It is a big threat not only for the patient, but also for their family.

Researchers say that if it is identified on time, then measures such as aspirin, regular colonoscopy and hysterctomy can reduce the risk of cancer in the future to a great extent.
