On Thursday (31 July 2025), a former police officer of Maharashtra Terrorism Squad (ATS), who investigated the 2008 blast case in Malegaon, Maharashtra, claimed that he was asked to arrest Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Reacting to the decision of the lower court to acquit all the seven accused, including former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pragya Singh Thakur, retired inspector Mehboob Mujawar said that the order to arrest Bhagwat was to establish saffron terrorism. The former police officer said in Solapur that the court’s decision has rejected the fraud of ATS. Initially the case was investigated by the ATS, but later it was taken into its hand by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Muzawar takes the name of senior officer
Mujawar, taking the name of a senior officer, said, “The decision has exposed a fake investigation conducted by a fake officer.” He said that he was part of the ATS team investigating the blast in Malegaon on 29 September 2008, killing six people and 101 others were injured. He claimed that he was asked to catch Mohan Bhagwat. He further said that I cannot say what the ATS investigated at that time and why I was given some confidential orders about celebrities like Ram Kalsangra, Sandeep Dange, Dilip Patidar and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. All these orders were not such that they could be followed. Muzawar said that in fact, he did not follow them because he knew the reality.

Catching a big person like Mohan Bhagwat is beyond my ability
Muzawar alleged that it was beyond my ability to catch a big person like Mohan Bhagwat. Since I did not follow the orders, a false case was registered against me and it ruined my 40 -year career. The former police officer said that he has documentary evidence in support of his claims. He said that there was no saffron terrorism. Everything was fake.
