Periods are very difficult for women. Working in the office sometimes becomes very challenging due to pain, weakness and fatigue. In such a situation, if women get a chance to rest for these special days, then both their health and work can improve. With this thinking in mind, another state of India has taken a big decision in the interest of women. Now lakhs of women employees of Karnataka will get one day paid period leave every month, which they can take without any medical certificate.

This decision is also special because earlier the facility of period leave was mostly limited to private institutions or selected states. However, now the Karnataka government has given a strong message regarding women’s health by implementing it at the government level. In such a situation, let us know till what age women can avail the benefit of this periods leave.

Up to what age can women avail the benefit of periods leave?

The Karnataka government has officially announced that all female government employees aged 18 to 52 years will get 1 day paid menstrual leave every month. In this way, a female employee will get a total of 12 days leave in a year, that too fully paid, this facility will be applicable to all three types of female employees of the state, permanent, contractual and outsourced.

No medical certificate is required to take leave

The government has also emphasized that female employees will not be required to provide any medical proof to take leave. Period leave cannot be combined with any other leave like casual leave, medical leave etc. This leave will be recorded separately in the office.

How many women will get the benefit?

According to government figures, more than 1.5 lakh women government employees work in Karnataka. Now everyone will get the benefit of this special menstrual leave. Labor Minister Santosh Lad said that this will improve women’s health, reduce mental stress and increase women’s convenience at the workplace.

The Karnataka government had proposed to give only 6 period leaves to women in a year in 2024. But later, keeping in mind the needs of women, it was increased to 12 days in October 2025.

Read also Aadhaar-UAN linking deadline is over, if you miss it you will not be able to do this work now.

Karnataka News: Karnataka government has approved the new policy for women employees. Under this, female government employees aged 18 to 52 years will get one day paid menstrual leave every month. This means that a total of 12 days leave can be taken in a year.

The government says that this step has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of women employees and their well-being at the workplace. This policy will be applicable to all permanent, contractual and outsourced women employees of the state. Women employees can avail this leave without any medical certificate. This will be recorded separately in the attendance or leave register. This holiday cannot be combined with any other holiday.

Government’s new decision after petition

This decision came after a petition by the Bangalore Hotel Association, which said that the menstrual leave policy made earlier was discriminatory as it did not include government employees.

More than 1.5 lakh women employees benefited

After the implementation of the new order, more than 1.5 lakh women government employees of the state will get the benefit of this special holiday. This facility will also be applicable to contract employees. Labor Minister Santosh Lad said that this decision will promote the health and mental strength of women.

No medical certificate required for leave

According to the new instructions of the government:

Medical certificate is not necessary to take menstrual leave.

This holiday cannot be combined with any other holiday.

It will be necessary to keep separate records of menstrual leave in offices.

Why did the demand arise?

In the petition of the association, it was said that most of the jobs of women in the state are in government departments, hence it is wrong to keep them out of the scope of this holiday. After this argument in the court, the government issued this new order.
