Meta Layoff 2026: Meta has confirmed to lay off about 10 percent of its employees on April 23, which will affect about 8 thousand people. Along with this, the company is also going to eliminate more than 6 thousand vacant posts. News of layoffs were coming out for the last few weeks and now it has been officially confirmed through an internal memo.

What is the reason for layoff?

The company says that it is taking this step to increase its expenditure on Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI and to make its work more efficient. According to the report, this retrenchment will not happen only once, but can happen in two phases. First in May and second by the end of this year, but Meta has also assured the affected employees of severance, packages, healthcare and help in finding new jobs.

The company has promised to provide a good severance package for the affected employees. In this way, employees will be given 16 weeks of basic salary and will also get an additional salary of 2 weeks for every year spent in the company.

The company will also bear the cost of healthcare coverage under COBRA for 18 months for employees working in America and their families. Employees working in other countries will also be given similar benefits, although there may be slight changes as per the rules of the country.

Along with this, the company also said that the affected employees will be given career support to help them find a new job. Besides, if needed, they will also be provided help related to immigration, so that they can explore further options without any hassle.
