An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude was felt in Mexico on Friday (2 December 2025). The epicenter of the earthquake was near San Marcos in Guerrero state. When the earthquake occurred, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was giving her first press briefing of the new year. The earthquake was so strong that President Claudia Sheinbaum and the people present there immediately ran out of the building.

President held press briefing after earthquake

After some time, President Claudia Sheinbaum resumed her press briefing. He told, ‘I spoke to Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado. No report of any serious damage has been received so far. As soon as the earthquake began, residents and tourists of Mexico City and Acapulco ran into the streets.

The President was taken to a safe place

After the earthquake alarm was raised, the officials peacefully evacuated the President and the people to a safe place. According to the report of news agency Associated Press, the earthquake in Mexico City was so strong that tall buildings started shaking and people started running out of the buildings towards open spaces.

Metro started shaking due to earthquake

Videos related to Mexico earthquake have surfaced on social media. A user posted a video of the metro station, in which the train can be clearly seen shaking. The user claimed that due to the earthquake, metro service was disrupted for 40 minutes.

In another video, a tall building is seen shaking due to the earthquake. Due to its location on several tectonic plates, Mexico is one of the most sensitive countries in the world in terms of earthquakes.
