An important meeting took place in Türkiye amid the ongoing tension in Gaza and the fragile ceasefire environment. Foreign ministers of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Türkiye participated in this meeting. All the leaders discussed creating an International Peace Force in Gaza. The meeting took place in Istanbul, the purpose of which was to strengthen joint efforts of Muslim countries to bring lasting peace in Gaza.

In the meeting, monitoring of the ceasefire, security of humanitarian aid and the structure of the international force in Gaza were discussed in detail. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, “Negotiations are ongoing on the proposed international force for Gaza. This force is not yet fully formed and a final decision has not been taken on its responsibilities.” He said that this initiative is in the initial stage, but all the countries have promised cooperation to bring stability in Gaza. Some countries have also shown readiness to send peacekeepers to Gaza so that the situation in the area can become normal after the ceasefire.

There have been reports of ceasefire violations several times

Although the ceasefire is in force since October 10, there have been reports of its violations several times. The situation in Gaza is still extremely critical and the humanitarian crisis is continuously increasing. This unity of Muslim countries has come at a time when the debate regarding Gaza is intense across the world. Many countries are trying to establish peace through the United Nations or through regional cooperation. But many diplomatic challenges may arise regarding the formation and operation of this force. Israel has already made it clear that it will decide which country’s army will enter Gaza.

Bodies of three hostages found in Gaza

Meanwhile, Israel said that the Red Cross has found the bodies of three hostages in Gaza, who will soon be handed over to the Israeli army. Hamas said the bodies were found in a tunnel in southern Gaza. After the ceasefire that came into effect on October 10, bodies of 17 hostages have so far been returned, while 11 are still in Gaza. Israel has sought to speed up the process of identifying the bodies and claimed that some bodies are not those of hostages.

Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit: On Monday (October 13) at the Sharm Al Sheikh Peace Conference in Egypt, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the entire credit for stopping the war between India and Pakistan goes to US President Donald Trump. This statement came at a time when a cordial atmosphere was seen between Sharif and Trump on the stage. The world saw India’s diplomacy.

US President Donald Trump, who has proposed the Gaza peace plan, is a co-organizer of the conference. Along with him, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi is also a co-organizer. Earlier in the day, Trump addressed the Israeli Parliament, where he praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and issued a stern warning to Hamas against violence.

PM Modi welcomed Gaza ceasefire

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was invited to the Egypt summit, but sent Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. Welcoming the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, Modi wrote on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), ‘We welcome the release of all the hostages who have been held captive for more than two years. It is a symbol of the courage of their families, President Trump’s tireless peace efforts and Prime Minister Netanyahu’s determination. We support President Trump’s sincere efforts to bring peace to the region.

Leaders of more than 20 countries attended the conference

According to the Egyptian Presidential Office, leaders of at least 20 countries are participating in the Sharm el-Sheikh peace conference. Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor posted on X and raised the question, ‘Is this strategic restraint or a lost opportunity?’ Shashi Tharoor clarified that this is not a question on the qualifications of Kirti Vardhan Singh, but this level of representation of India in the presence of such big leaders may indicate “strategic distance”, which does not match with India’s statements.

He further said, ‘Even if seen only from the protocol point of view, India’s voice will not be as effective as it could have been. When the region is reshaping itself, our absence is shocking.

Prominent leaders attending the summit

This conference includes Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who along with Trump played a role in starting the peace process. Apart from this, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas is also participating, while Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu did not participate.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, European Council President Antonio Costa, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Ghaith and Jordan’s King Abdullah II. Along with this, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al Sudani were also present.
