LPG Price Hike: Due to the ongoing war between US-Iran, people in India are also facing the brunt of inflation. In the last few days, along with petrol and diesel, the prices of commercial and LPG gas cylinders have also increased. But the onslaught of inflation has not stopped yet but is going to increase further in the future. It has been confirmed by the government that the prices of domestic gas are going to increase further in the coming time.

Statement from the government
In fact, recently Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has said that the prices of petrol and diesel may increase in the coming time. He said, ‘We are also sad and regretful over the increase in the price of gas cylinder. But before criticizing it, people should understand the current situation of the world. At present the whole world is facing many serious crises.

He further said, ‘The transportation and supply of goods (transshipment) is being affected across the world. LPG is also now available from very few places. In such a situation, pressure on supply and prices has increased.

The government is concerned about the common people
Taking his point forward, he said, ‘The cost of transportation has increased significantly. The base cost of gas is also high. Apart from this, it is taking 40-45 days to transport the goods from one place to another, due to which the insurance cost has also increased. We are equally concerned about the problems of the common people, but in the current situation, increasing the price of gas has become a compulsion.

Prices have increased recently
Let us tell you that recently on Sunday, June 7, the prices of domestic gas cylinders have increased. After the increase of Rs 29 per cylinder, now the price of 14.2 kg cylinder in the market has become Rs 942 in Delhi. Earlier, the prices of commercial gas cylinders had also increased. Due to which a lot of tension was seen between traders and those doing food related business.

The ongoing war in the Middle East is now affecting the entire world. The impact of the ongoing war between Iran, Israel and America has started becoming visible on India too, because attacks on energy related targets have started in the Gulf countries. Till now Iran was targeting only American military bases, but now it has started attacking oil and gas related infrastructure. There was a missile attack on a large gas plant located in Ras Laffan Industrial City of Qatar, due to which a fire broke out there and production had to be stopped. This attack happened at a time when Israel attacked Iran’s South Pars gas field. After this, Iran warned Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates that their energy bases could be targeted.

According to CNBC report, Qatar is one of the world’s largest LNG i.e. Liquefied Natural Gas supplier countries. Due to the attack on the gas plant there, the risk of increase in the prices of gas and oil across the world has increased. Its impact on India may be greater because India imports about 47 percent of its gas requirement from Qatar. Every year India imports about 27 million tonnes of LNG, of which 12 to 13 million tonnes comes from Qatar. Apart from this, about 24 percent gas comes from UAE and about 11 percent gas comes from America.

Under what circumstances will India have to take gas from other countries?

If gas production in Qatar remains affected for a long time, India may have to buy expensive gas from other places. Along with this, due to increasing tension in the Strait of Hormuz, some gas tankers of India are also stranded in the sea, due to which the pressure on supply is increasing.
