Bagram Airbase has been a major military base of the US Army after the September 11, 2001 attacks. This airbase was the mainstay during the 20 -year appearance of American soldiers in Afghanistan. After the return of the US Army in 2021, the Taliban took it into its possession. Trump said that Washington is trying to regain control over this airbase and talks with Afghanistan are going on in this regard.

The Taliban rule has strongly condemned Trump’s remarks. Senior officials of the Afghan government said that foreign military presence in Afghanistan would never be accepted. The government media quoted a senior diplomat of the Ministry of External Affairs as saying that the US and Afghanistan should talk towards bilateral honors and economic and political relations based on shared interests.

Biden was criticized by Trump

Trump also criticized Biden for leaving Bagram Airbase at the time of the US Army’s return in August 2021. He had said that America wants to regain it. Trump also said that American control over Bagram Airbase is strategically necessary for him due to being close to China’s nuclear bases.

Bagram Airbase, about 50 km north of Kabul, has been the main military base of American -led coalition forces and a plan to re -achieve this indicates significant changes in the US Afghani policy.
