Hindu killing in Bangladesh: There is an election atmosphere in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, a sensational news has come to light. The dead body of a Hindu youth has been found in a tea garden in Champara area. The deceased has been identified as Ratan Sahukar. According to media reports, there is a possibility of him being murdered.

It is being told that there were many injury marks on Ratan’s body. The dead body was found soaked in blood and both its legs were tied. The police have taken the body into their custody and started investigation. Police say that they are investigating this matter from every angle.

Recently another Hindu businessman was murdered

Let us tell you that even before this a case of murder of a Hindu businessman had come to light in Bangladesh. In Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh district, unknown people attacked and killed a 62-year-old Hindu businessman with a sharp weapon in his own shop.

This businessman was identified as Susan Chandra Sarkar, a resident of Southkanda village. He was the owner of a shop named ‘Bhai Bhai Enterprise’. The attackers attacked them with sharp weapons, then left them inside the shop and closed the shutters. When Susan Chandra Sarkar did not return home for a long time, the family reached the shop in search of him. When the shutter was opened, he was found lying inside in a pool of blood.

Attacks on Hindus have increased since December

Let us tell you that after the murder of radical youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi in December, incidents of attacks on Hindus have increased in Bangladesh. As the date of general elections approached, these incidents increased further. In December 2025 alone, 51 incidents of communal violence were recorded.

Hindu community on target in Bangladesh

In the last few months, reports of killing of many Hindus have come to light from different districts. Last month, a 25-year-old Hindu youth was burnt alive in Narsindi district while he was sleeping in a garage. Police had said that the case is suspicious and CCTV footage is being examined. No arrest has been made in this case so far.

In another incident, a Hindu petrol pump employee was killed in Rajbari district. It was told that a customer was trying to run away without paying and during that time he crushed the employee with his vehicle. Police have arrested the vehicle owner and driver, but investigation is still going on whether this matter is communal or not.

During the budget session of Parliament, Janata Dal United (JDU) MPs in the Lok Sabha on Friday (February 6, 2026) questioned the Central Government regarding bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. Janata Dal United Lok Sabha MPs Giridhari Yadav, Dinesh Chandra Yadav and Rampreet Mandal asked the External Affairs Minister whether bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh were currently going through a sensitive phase. If yes, what are its details?

Also, is Pakistan trying to take advantage of this situation, which could be detrimental to the country, if so, what are the details? Further, has the Government had any discussions with the Interim Government of Bangladesh regarding reports of public killings of minority civilians, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh and if so, the details thereof?

Responding to the question, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that India and Bangladesh, as neighboring countries, share deep historical, geographical, cultural, linguistic and social ties. Our bilateral relations are focused on people-to-people development. Many exchanges and meetings are ongoing between the two countries under the institutional bilateral mechanism. India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh has been communicated to the Interim Government in all relevant communications.

What did the minister say on relations with Bangladesh?

The minister said that India’s relations with Bangladesh are independent from its relations with third countries. The Government constantly monitors developments affecting India’s national interests and takes all necessary measures to protect them. India has raised the issue of safety and security of minorities in Bangladesh with Bangladeshi authorities on all relevant occasions, including at the highest levels.

When did the Prime Minister raise the issue?

The issue related to the security of minorities was raised from the Prime Minister’s side in a meeting with Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus on 4 April 2025 and from the Foreign Minister’s side in a meeting with Foreign Advisor Tauheed Hussain on 16 February 2025. The government is constantly monitoring reports related to the security of minorities in Bangladesh. The primary responsibility of the Government of Bangladesh is to protect the life, liberty and welfare of all citizens of Bangladesh, including religious and ethnic minorities.

This month of December was one of fear and silence for Hindus in the neighboring country Bangladesh. The brutal killing of many Hindus in just 10 days has raised concerns about regional security and human rights. Families locked in their homes, houses destroyed by fire and incidents of murder even among security forces are raising the question whether the safety of minorities is being ensured in the neighboring country and what steps can the Indian government take to stop it. Let us understand.

How many innocents were killed in 10 days?

This series of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh became most intense in December. First, 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death in Mymensingh district and later burnt. Authorities later said the blasphemy charge was false. A week later, 29-year-old Amrit Mandal was beaten to death by a mob in Pangsha of Rajbari district. The third incident took place in the same Mymensingh district, where 40-year-old Bajendra Biswas was shot by his Muslim colleague Noman Mian.

Dipu Chandra Das – False allegation took his life

Dipu Chandra Das worked in a garment factory in Bhaluka. Rumors were spread against him that he made objectionable remarks. At around 9 pm, a crowd of hundreds of people caught him and beat him brutally. After his death the mob tied him to a tree and burnt him. This incident is being considered the most gruesome example of increasing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

Amrit Mandal- Mob lynched

A week after Deepu’s murder, Amrit Mandal was murdered in Pangsha of Rajbari district. At night, some people along with him went to Shahidul’s house, then the local people raised the alarm of dacoit-robber and the mob caught hold of Amrit and started beating him. Amrit died in the hospital after being badly injured by kicks, punches and sticks.

Bajendra Biswas – No one is safe even in security forces

Bajendra Biswas, 40, who was a member of the Ansar force, was shot dead by his Muslim companion Noman Mian in Bhaluka, Mymensingh district. Biswas, posted at Sultana Sweaters Factory, became the target while on duty. His own companion shot him in the thigh and Biswas died. This incident shows that now the security personnel engaged in protecting the minorities are also in danger.

Attacks on Hindu families and burning of houses

Apart from the killings, houses of 5-6 Hindu families were set on fire in Pirojpur district. At night, when the families were sleeping, the miscreants also locked the doors from outside. The families managed to escape with their lives. Such incidents show that minority communities in Bangladesh are under constant threat.

Indian Government’s intervention and possible steps

Experts believe that the Indian government should exert diplomatic pressure to ensure the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. This could include high-level talks, joint security monitoring, and applying pressure through human rights groups. Additionally, a message can also be sent by taking temporary steps on visa policy, trade and cultural cooperation for Bangladesh in India.
