The first match of IPL 2026 was played on Saturday, March 28 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Many spectators who had come to watch the match had lodged complaints of mobile theft. In this case, the police of Cubbon Park, Bengaluru have got a big success, in which it was told that the heinous act of mobile theft was done by hiring minors.

Police have reportedly busted a gang of minors who were hired by a gang from outside Karnataka to be active in and around the stadium during the match. Police have recovered 21 mobiles, whose value is said to be approximately Rs 18 lakh.

City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh told media persons that 21 stolen mobiles of various brands have been recovered. Reportedly the main accused has also been taken into custody. Apart from this, some minors who were involved in the crime have also been detained. Police are also searching for the remaining members of the gang, who are absconding.

Bangalore stadium remained in controversies

Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was also in controversies during the last IPL i.e. 2025. In fact, last season Royal Challengers Bangalore had won the tournament title, after which a victory parade was held in Bengaluru. There was a stampede outside the stadium during the victory parade, in which 11 people lost their lives. Apart from this, many people were injured.

After this stampede, matches were banned in the stadium of Bengaluru. The matches of the 2026 T20 World Cup were also organized in another stadium instead of Bengaluru. At the same time, even before the 19th season of IPL, things were not clear regarding the match being held in Bengaluru. The Karnataka government had constituted a special committee. The committee, after investigating many things, submitted its report and then permission was given to hold the match on the ground.
