Mirage 5 Rose III fighter aircraft of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) crashed near Sargodha on Tuesday (September 09, 2025). The pilot on the training flight could not control the aircraft and the aircraft fiercely collided with the ground below. It is being told that there is a possibility of stall (losing the pace of the aircraft) in the flight between the aircraft, due to which this accident happened.

Mirage 5 aircraft problems are old
Mirage 5 aircraft was designed by Dasault Aviation in the 1960s. It was later upgraded under Pakistan’s Rose (Retrofit of Strike Element) program. Despite this, this aircraft has always been disputed in terms of safety. Since 2012, at least 15 Mirage 5 aircraft have crashed, in which 9 pilots also lost their lives.

Miraj is called “Widow Maker”
According to experts, Mirage 5 aircraft is often called “Widow Maker”. Its specialty is that this stall-spin is very sensitive to events. This means that due to obstruction in air flow, the aircraft starts moving uncontrollably, which is very difficult to stop, no matter how experienced the pilot is.

Modern challenges from old design
Analysts say that even though Mirage 5 has been upgraded, its old design is unable to keep pace with modern aviation requirements. Due to this, such accidents occur from time to time in flights. Pakistan’s army is keeping a close watch on this situation and intensive investigation is going on for further action. Investigating officers who reached the spot after the accident have also collected samples from there. There has been no comment from Pakistan Air Force regarding the incident.
