The latest information revealed through RTI has raised a big political question that many leaders of Bihar and Central Government are taking both salary and pension simultaneously. This was revealed in the RTI response given on December 2, 2025, in which the names of a total of 8 leaders are included. Among them are ministers of Modi government and Nitish government, due to which the matter has become more serious.

Big names and complete list

Among the leaders whose names have appeared in RTI, the most shocking names are those of Union Minister Satish Chandra Dubey and Bihar Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav. Apart from these, leaders like Upendra Kushwaha, Devesh Chandra Thakur, Lalan Kumar Saraf, Nitish Mishra and Sanjay Singh are also included in the list. Pension has been issued to all the leaders for many years without any interruption, whereas as per the rules, it is completely wrong to take pension while being a member of any House. Background and status of leaders

Upendra Kushwaha is a Rajya Sabha MP and is also taking pension since 2005. NDA ally and president of Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Satish Chandra Dubey is currently the Union Minister of State in the Government of India. First he was an MLA and Lok Sabha MP, then reached Rajya Sabha in 2019. Bijendra Prasad Yadav has been the MLA from Supaul continuously since 1990 and is currently the Finance and Energy Minister of Bihar.

Devesh Chandra Thakur JDU leader and Lok Sabha MP of 2024. He has also been the former Chairman of the Legislative Council. Lalan Saraf, senior JDU leader and Legislative Council member. Nitish Mishra is a BJP MLA and claims that he is not taking pension right now. Sanjay Singh is a legislative councilor from JDU and a pensioner since 2018.

What do the rules say and why is the matter controversial?

The rules regarding pension and salary are very clear that if any person is a member of any House and is taking salary, then he cannot take pension. ‘Life Certificate’ has to be given every year, which proves that the pensioner is alive and eligible. Not only this, to continue the pension, it is also necessary to give in writing that he is not serving on any post in the state or central government. In such a situation, a big question arises that how are the ministers and MPs taking pension. Experts say that despite violation of rules, continuous pension in the accounts of these leaders is a serious administrative deficiency in itself and it raises questions on the government system.

Opinion of legal experts

Patna High Court’s senior lawyer Sarvdev Singh has described it as a case of ‘economic crime’. He says that no honorable person can take pension while holding office and if this is happening then it is a violation of both rules and law. Activist Shiv Prakash Rai, who filed the RTI, says that he has obtained this information from government records and it has been made public for transparency. When contacted by Bhaskar, most of the leaders did not receive the calls, although some leaders clarified that the pension had not been received in their account or it might have been registered incorrectly.

Who is saying what and what could be the next action?

Devesh Chandra Thakur and Nitish Mishra called this information incomplete and said that if any pension has come in the account, they will return it. Thakur clearly said that he has never demanded pension. Nitish Mishra claimed that he was able to take only one month’s pension in 2015, when he was not a member of any House. According to Dainik Bhaskar, he has not taken pension after that. On the other hand, after this RTI list came to the fore in political circles, opposition parties have started raising questions on transparency and corruption on the government. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh shared a post on social media platform X on Saturday (November 8, 2025). In the post, Jairam Ramesh said, ‘On April 12, 2017, the BJP government had said in the Rajya Sabha that there is no historical evidence of the birth of Mother Sita in Sitamarhi, Bihar. This answer was given by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India. He alleged that this statement is a direct insult to the faith of Bihar, identity and cultural pride of Mithila.

He said, ‘The question to the Prime Minister is that when your own government insulted the faith of Bihar in the Parliament, will you apologize publicly before coming to the holy land of Sitamarhi today? Why are you not interested in preserving and developing the religious places of Bihar?

Only fake promises made in the name of development of Bihar- Jairam

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has only made fake promises and cheated the state in the name of development of Bihar. He also claimed that this time the people of Bihar are voting to remove the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from power.

The Congress leader said, ‘Even after 20 years of NDA rule, when the Prime Minister comes to the soil of Bihar, he remembers only Katta and Goli for the Biharis, but in the name of development of Bihar, he has a lot of fake promises and deception.’ He said, ‘Today the Prime Minister is in Sitamarhi and Bettiah. There are direct questions to him regarding the discrimination and neglect faced by Bihar.

Amidst the assembly elections in Bihar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president J.P. While addressing a public meeting in Bhojpur on Tuesday (November 4), Nadda made a scathing attack on the opposition and praised the development of Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. Nadda said that jungle raj, goonda raj and kidnapping are the identity of RJD, whereas today’s Bihar is running on the track of development.

He said, “20 years ago, Bihar was immersed in darkness, there was no electricity, law and order was in bad shape, but today due to the hard work of Nitish Kumar ji, the state is creating a new identity of development. This is the golden period of Bihar and the beginning of a bright future.”

JP Nadda made this appeal to the people

Nadda appealed to the people to consider this election as an election of development and stability. He said, “Today the vehicle of development of Bihar is back on track and is now moving forward rapidly. It should not be stopped but should be strengthened. We have traveled in Bihar from lantern to LED and today this is the era of LED.”

The BJP president further said, “20 years ago, people used to go to generator vendors to get their mobile phones charged and pay Rs 10, because there was no electricity in their homes, but now there is electricity for 23 to 24 hours in every village.” He also added that today YouTubers are being prepared in the villages of Bihar, because the Modi government has connected more than 5,000 panchayats to the internet.

Emphasis on women empowerment

Referring to the schemes of Modi government and the state government, Nadda said that under the Women Employment Scheme, an assistance amount of Rs 10,000 has been given to the women of Bihar. He said that after the formation of the NDA government, Rs 2 lakh will be sent to the accounts of the women of Bihar, so that they can become self-reliant and get involved in self-employment.

Nadda said that during the RJD government, Bihar was known for fear, corruption and kidnapping. Today’s government is a symbol of development, good governance and stability. He promised that if the INDIA coalition government comes to power, new world class universities like Nalanda University will be built in Bihar, where foreign students will also come to study. WHO has also come into action in this matter. WHO officials have asked the Indian government whether these dangerous syrups have been exported to foreign countries also? If this happens, WHO will consider issuing a Global Medical Products Alert. Let us tell you that such an alert is issued when such a defect is found in any medicine or product, which can become a threat to people’s health. If these syrups have been exported to other countries, then WHO can soon issue an advisory, so that such accidents can be prevented in other countries also.

This incident raised many questions

In India, this case has raised questions on the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory bodies. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given strict instructions to all the states and union territories. DCGI issued a letter saying that before launching any medicine in the market, it should be thoroughly tested. Deficiency has been found at some places, regarding which DCGI has expressed displeasure. He has ordered all the pharmaceutical companies to strictly test every batch and only then send it to the market for sale.

Situation is worst in Chhindwara

In this case, maximum deaths have occurred in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. The local administration here has also taken strict steps. The owner of the pharmaceutical company manufacturing this syrup has been arrested. Investigation has also revealed that chemicals like DG and EG present in the syrup proved to be poisonous for children. These chemicals are not common ingredients used in cough syrup and their excessive quantity can be fatal.

Congress accused

Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh attacked the central government and said that if Russia, who was once the most trusted strategic partner in India, is now giving advanced engine to Pakistan, then it is the failure of the Modi government’s foreign policy. He said, “The Modi government should clarify that Russia, which has been our traditional ally, is now providing technical help to Pakistan. This engine will be installed in JF-17 Block-III aircraft. The advanced version of the same model which used PL-15 missiles against India during Operation Sindoor.”

Jairam Ramesh also added that India still continues to talk about the S-400 missile system and SU-57 Stealth Fighter from Russia, which shows the government’s image-based diplomacy failure.

Did BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya say?

BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya described the allegations of the Congress as “false and misleading”. He said that Russia has clearly rejected all such claims. In his X (East Twitter) post, Malaviya wrote, “Russia has denied the news of the engine supply to Pakistan. Jairam Ramesh has formed the basis of a website report that is known to spread the pro-Pakistan propaganda. Neither official confirmation, no reliable source, just one more news.” He further said that the Congress seems to be standing in favor of the enemy instead of the national interest by spreading such rumors repeatedly and is part of the “Information War”.

At present, the engine supply to Pakistan has not been confirmed by Russia any official means. But this entire controversy has definitely given rise to a new debate on India’s foreign policy and relations with Russia.

Before Diwali, the Modi government has given a big gift to the farmers. The central government has decided to increase the MSP of Rabi crops on Wednesday (October 1, 2025). For this, the government has announced the release of Rs 84,263 crore. This package will be for 6 years. Apart from this, the central government has approved a package of Rs 11,440 crore to promote pulses crops.

Wheat MSP extended

The Union Cabinet has increased the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat by 6.59 per cent to Rs 2,585 per quintal for the 2026-27 session. For 2025-26, the MSP of wheat was fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal. In this way, the MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 160 per quintal this year.

Wheat is the main crop of the rabi session whose sowing starts from the end of October and begins to be harvested from March. Other rabi crops include jowar, barley, gram and lentils. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the MSP for Rabi session crops has been determined on the basis of the recommendations of the Agricultural Costs and Price Commission (CACP).

The government has set a target of producing 11.9 million tonnes of wheat for 2025-26 crop year (July-June). Its estimated production in 2024-25 was 11.75 million tonnes, which is a record so far. Apart from this, barley MSP has been increased to Rs 2150/quintal, gram 5875 rupees/quintal, mustard 6200/quintal.

Government’s focus on promoting pulses cultivation

The central government is focusing on promoting pulses-oil cultivation. For this, the government has announced a package of Rs 11,440 crore. This mission will last for 6 years, under which a target has been set to increase the yield of pulses to 350 lakh metric tonnes every year. Toor, urad and lentil dal will be procured 100 percent.

On the decisions of the cabinet, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “A total of Rs 84263 crore will go to the hard work of our farmers brothers by increasing the MSP of the Rabi season. The estimated purchase during the Rabi season 2026-27 is likely to be 297 lakh metric tonnes and the amount to be paid to the farmers on the proposed MSP is Rs 84,263 crore.”

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik has targeted the tariff case. He said that countries like India and Brazil should open their markets and react to America by avoiding policies that harm American interests.
