India-Bangladesh Relations: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has made a statement on Thursday (May 29, 2025) to have a good relationship with Bangladesh. According to the PTI report, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that India wants to establish a positive and creative relationship with the neighboring country Bangladesh. Apart from this, he has also requested Dhaka to hold independent, fair and inclusive elections in the country.

During the weekly press briefing of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal said, “We want a good relationship with Bangladesh, to fulfill the wishes and interests of the people of both countries.” He said, “Bangladesh should also ensure the wishes and mandate of the people through inclusive, fair and independent elections in the country as soon as possible.”

Demonstrations to hold elections in Bangladesh

New Delhi’s remarks about the general elections to be held in Bangladesh have come at a time when government employees in Bangladesh have started protests at a new level and many political parties are demanding to conduct elections in the country by the end of this year.

Mohammad Yunus held India responsible for the latest position of Bangladesh

Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, blamed India for the latest situations in Bangladesh, to which the Indian Foreign Ministry now reacted. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, “The interim government of Bangladesh is trying to divert attention from the criticism caused by the situation and challenges in its country.

He said, “Whenever such statements come out, it seems that you want to divert people in some other direction by distracting the attention of people related to your power, but when you accuse others by saying that these external problems are caused by others, it does not solve that problem.”

India-Bangladesh in Bimstec: Bangladesh has contacted India amidst violence over minorities in the country and tension in relations with India. According to the ANI report, Bangladesh has approached India to hold a bilateral meeting between Mohammad Yunus and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in Bangkok in the first week of April.

Actually, leaders of both countries can attend the 6th BIMSTEC summit held in Bangkok from April 2 to 4. In view of this, Bangladesh has contacted to hold a meeting between the two leaders.

Bangladesh’s foreign affairs advisor made a statement

Talking to news agency ANI, Mohammad Tauhid Hussain, advisor for foreign affairs in the interim government of Bangladesh, said, “We have made diplomatic contact with India to hold a bilateral meeting between the leaders of the two countries during the BIMSTEC Summit.” At the same time, Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, is likely to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28 (Friday).

Mohammad Tauhid Hussain meeting with Indian Foreign Minister

According to the report, in February last month, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tauhid Hussain at the Indian Ocean Conference held in Oman. Had a meeting with Jaishankar. External Affairs Minister S.K. Jaishankar had reported, “The meeting held between the two countries focused on bilateral relations and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sector Technical and Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC).”
