The demand for changing the name of Mohammadwadi village in Pune district of Maharashtra has been raised. This demand has come from Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s party Shiv Sena. The Shiv Sena demands that the name of Mohammadwadi be changed to Mahadevwadi. The discussion has gained momentum with the proposal of Shinde faction.

Shiv Sena MLA Bharat Gogawale has requested his party’s Chief Eknath Shinde to consider changing the name of the village.

This demand has been going on for 29 years
The demand to change the name of Mohammadwadi village in Hadpsar area of Pune is not new, but has been going on since 1996. This demand is also supported by local leaders and residents.

Shiv Sena Pune chief announces
Pune city chief Pramod (Nana) Bhangire of Shiv Sena announced this through X post. He wrote, “Mohammadwadi will now be Mahadevwadi. Shiv Sena MLA Bharat Gogawale has requested Eknath Shinde to change the name of Mohammadwadi to Mahadevwadi. Jai Maharashtra. Jai Shri Ram.”

Ancient temple of Mahadev in the village
According to Pramod Bhangire, local residents have been demanding to change the name of the village for a long time. There is a very old temple of Mahadev in the middle of the village. Local people believe that the name Mahadevwadi reflects their legacy and faith better.

‘There is no connection with the name Mohammadwadi’
The villagers claim that Mohammadwadi’s name has nothing to do with their history or culture. They do not even know who named it and why? The proposal to change the name of the village was passed in 1996, but it was never implemented. When Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the area, the local people reiterated their demand.

Now, when Bharat Gogawale has officially written a letter to the Chief Minister and MLC Yogesh Tilakar has also taken up the matter in the ongoing assembly session, such speculations are being made that the name of the village can be changed soon.
