Ajit Agarkar On Mohammed Shami: BCCI on Tuesday (May 19) announced Team India for a Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Once again the name of fast bowler Mohammed Shami was missing from the Test team. When Chief Selector Ajitkar Agkar was asked about Shami, he gave a very absurd answer.

Let us tell you that Shami had played the last match for Team India in the 2025 Champions Trophy final. He played the last Test three years ago in 2023 in the form of the World Test Championship final. After being out of Team India, Shami is continuously playing all three formats in domestic cricket.

What did Ajit Agarkar say on Shami?

Agarkar admitted that Shami’s body is ready to play. Apart from this, he also admitted that Shami was seen playing in domestic cricket. At the time of team announcement, Ajit Agarkar said about Shami, “As far as we have been told, his body is allowing him to play.”

Agarkar’s absurd statement, Shami is ready only for T20

Agkar further said, “I know that he has played domestic cricket this year. But from the information I have received, he is only ready for T20 cricket. So there was no talk about him.”

Shami wreaked havoc in 2025-26 Ranji Trophy

Let us tell you that while playing for Bengal in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, Shami took 37 wickets in 13 innings of 7 matches at an average of 16.72. In this his innings best was 8/90. He was ranked sixth in the list of bowlers taking the most wickets in the season. Apart from this, he also played List-A and T20 cricket in the domestic season. From this point of view, it does not seem that Shami is available only for T20 cricket.
