There is tremendous turmoil in the politics of Bangladesh before the general elections proposed in February 2026. Sajeeb Wajed, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and chief strategist of Awami League, has seriously accused the interim government and chief advisor Professor Mohammad Yunus of weakening democracy. Strong opposition to keeping Awami League out of elections

On August 8 last year, Yunus had lifted the ban on the organization named Jamaat-e-Islami. This fundamentalist organization hates Hindus. Sheikh Hasina government had banned Jamaat-e-Islami and its student group Islami Chhatra Shibir on August 1, 2024. The reason for this was the violence during the protests against student quota, in which more than 150 people lost their lives. Sheikh Hasina had banned it under the anti-terrorism law.

Jamaat had created massacre in 1971 war
Actually, Jamaat-e-Islami was started in 1941. This organization is completely pro-Pakistan and works on the instructions of ISI. The whole world has seen a glimpse of this in the 1971 war. When Jamaat-e-Islami supported the Pakistani Army in the Bangladesh War of Independence and had a hand in the killing of lakhs of people. In 2013, the Bangladesh court had barred it from contesting elections because its rule was against the constitution.

Jamaat wants to run Bangladesh according to Sharia
On 5 August 2024, Sheikh Hasina resigned and came to India. After this, Yunus government said that there is no terrorist activity of Jamaat and the allegations of Sheikh Hasina government were wrong. Jamaat is a radical Islamic organization, which wants to make Bangladesh a country with Sharia law. Its student group Shibir is very violent, killing enemies and instigating religious conflicts. Apart from this, this organization hates Hindus and is associated with other fundamentalist groups. After the war crimes verdict in 2013, its people demolished more than 50 Hindu temples and set fire to more than 1,500 Hindu houses and shops.

The 2024 violence saw 2,010 attacks from August 4 to 20. 1,705 families were affected and 152 temples were damaged. The fanaticism of the Jamaat is clearly visible in the killings of Hindus.

Hadi’s brother accused the government

Inquilab Manch’s allegations and demands
Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inquilab Manch, said Usman’s killing was part of a ‘deep conspiracy’ to destroy the achievements of the July protests and the sovereignty of Bangladesh, The Daily Star reported. He claimed that international intelligence agencies and ‘fascist collaborators’ working in the country took part in the murder. Jaber has demanded from the government that the killers should be presented before the public within the stipulated time as per international standards, otherwise their opposition will intensify.

Salehuddin Ahmed, finance advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, said on Tuesday (23 December 2025) that Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus has taken steps to improve strained relations with New Delhi and his administration is working on developing economic ties with India while keeping economic interests separate from ‘political rhetoric’.

Ahmed told reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement in his office, ‘The Chief Advisor is working on improving diplomatic relations with India and he himself is talking to various concerned parties on this subject.’ When asked whether Yunus had spoken directly to India, Ahmed said the chief advisor had “no”, but he had spoken to people associated with the matter.

Bangladesh will buy 50,000 tonnes of rice from India

Ahmed said, ‘Our trade policy is not driven by political considerations. If importing rice from India is cheaper than importing it from Vietnam or anywhere else, then it is economically logical that we buy this staple food grain from India. Ahmed expressed hope that bilateral relations will not deteriorate further. He also said that Bangladesh on Tuesday approved a proposal to buy 50,000 tonnes of rice from India, ‘taking steps towards building good relations’. He said that importing this rice will be beneficial for Bangladesh because importing rice from Vietnam instead of India will cost 10 Bangladeshi Taka (0.082 US dollars) more per kilogram.

India-Bangladesh relations reach worst level since 1971

Ahmed’s comments come at a time when diplomatic analysts have said that relations between India and Bangladesh are at their lowest level since Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971. In this, 1.25 crore liters of soybean oil will be purchased from America at the rate of Taka 132.69 per liter, while the remaining oil will be purchased from Nigeria at the rate of Taka 121.32 per liter.

He said that if there is any attempt to destabilize Bangladesh, the seven northeastern states of India will be isolated. These seven states are called ‘Seven Sisters’, which include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura.

Hasnat is a big opponent of Sheikh Hasina

Hasnat Abdullah is a leader who played a key role in the violent protests against Sheikh Hasina government. He has been continuously giving anti-India statements. In the rally, NCP’s northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam also made anti-India statements. He said that relations with India cannot be normal until Sheikh Hasina is given shelter.

This statement has come at a time when general elections are near in Bangladesh. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina and formation of interim government of Mohammad Yunus, anti-India statements have increased. Former High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Veena Sikri also called the court’s decision illegal. He says that no official basis was given for the figure of 1,400 deaths, nor was the identity of the victims disclosed. He said that this decision was given so quickly that it seems to be motivated more by political motives than judicial process. Former ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar also said that this decision was predetermined as all the members of the tribunal are trusted people of the current interim government.

Former High Commissioner of India Riva Ganguly Das said that the situation needs to be viewed very carefully. He told that after the verdict, two bulldozers were seen moving towards 32 Dhanmondi of Dhaka, where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was murdered. He raised questions as to who are bringing these bulldozers and why that place is being targeted.
