RBI Monetary Policy Committee: The Monetary Committee (MPC) meeting of RBI and its policy decisions are taken every two months, which have a direct impact on the Indian economy, markets and common people. The aim of the central bank is to control inflation, ensure stability of the rupee and maintain economic momentum. The MPC consists of a total of six members—three nominated by the RBI and three nominated by the Central Government. Its main objective is to keep inflation within the range of 4 percent on an average.

What does MPC do?

Often a question arises in the minds of people that how do the decisions taken in the MPC meeting affect everything from markets and loans to EMIs and employment. Dr. Aastha Ahuja, Professor of Aryabhatta College, Delhi University, says that when the Central Bank makes a policy, it has a direct impact on the interest rates, liquidity available in the market and the sentiments of investors. The change in interest rates is basically based on the fluctuations in the repo rate.

Recently, RBI has reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points, which brought it down to 5.25 percent. This makes borrowing cheaper and increases the purchasing power of consumers, which encourages investment and demand. However, in such a situation, the risk of capital outflow may increase, because the interest rates in foreign markets are high. This affects the rupee, inflation and balance of payments (BOP). At present the rupee has already weakened against the dollar and has crossed 90.

How are each sector affected?

Talking about the stock market, large-cap stocks are performing relatively better, while mid-cap and small-caps are under pressure. The reason for this is lack of demand. RBI figures show that capacity utilization is at 75.8 percent, which means the pace of private investment in the economy is weak. In such a situation, investment will not increase rapidly by merely reducing the repo rate, unless domestic demand increases. To increase demand, the role of fiscal policy of the government becomes very important.

The income and savings structure in India also affects investment. Only 8–9 percent of people in the country are able to save enough, which mostly includes the upper-middle and rich classes. The savings of the middle and lower-middle classes are very low, due to which a large amount of savings go into mutual funds and stock markets, especially when returns on fixed income are uncertain.

Rbi cut repo rate: The decision of the Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday to declare a deficiency of 25 basis points in the repo rate by 6% has brought happiness in the real estate sector. In the three -day meeting of the Monetry Policy Committee of the Central Bank under the leadership of Governor Sanjay Malhotra, a decision was taken on loan EMI. After this decision, the real estate sector hopes that the region will get further strengthened amidst current global uncertainties.

Pankaj Kumar Jain, director of KW Group, says, “The decision to reduce the interest rate at the rate of 25 BPS for the second consecutive time will promote the sector. However, the current status of the economy is at risk due to the global tariff war and the status quo was expected from the RBI. The major indicators of the economy are stable as the GDP growth rate is 6.5% and the money is reduced by the RBI at the same time. The sector will appreciate.

On the other hand, Trehan Group’s Managing Director Summary Trehan says, “Reducing the repo rate to 6.00% is a commendable and visionary decision of RBI, which will have a positive and widespread impact on the real estate sector. Now the decrease in loan interest rates will give direct benefits to homebeelers, which will be more accessible to take loans and will increase in the current economic perspective. Investors will act as a strong incentive. Especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where the demand for affordable and price-driven housing is high, this step can also be seen by the RBI’s growth and ensuring the liquidity, which is extremely necessary for the continuous growth of the real estate sector.

Whereas, Vikas Garg, Joint Managing Director of Ganga Realty, says, “RBI’s decision to reduce the repo rate by 6.00% is a commendable step, which will strengthen the status of home loan borrowers, because it will reduce EMI and increase the reach of affordable housing .. This decision, which is taken with ‘generous’ stance, gives a positive indication and a positive indication of consumer sentiments. Will do .. Real estate sector, especially in affordable and mid-segment housing, this step will strengthen demand and investment .. Repo rate cuts and better liquidity together will play an important role in speeding up the housing sector .. ”

RBI Repo Rate Cut: Today, crores of consumers can be given relief from RBI. Today is the last day of the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of Reserve Bank of India from April 7. After the end of this meeting, the repo rate can be announced from 0.25 per cent to 0.50 per cent from RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra. If this announcement is made by RBI, then car loans, home loans and personal loans will become cheap.

However, the hope of any change in the rate of deposits in the bank is very low. That is, the benefits can be given to those taking home loans from the bank, but the depositors are not going to benefit from it.

According to the TOE, about this, ICRs’ Senior Vice President Anil Gupta says, there is a stir in the market at this time, in such a situation, what kind of practical change is coming in the retail investor, it will be known in a long time, not immediately. But at this time there is a lot of difference between fixed deposit rate and deposit of savings account.

RBI’s inflation control target is between 2% to 6% and currently India remains in this band. This means that now the focus of the ABI will be on boosting the growth. This will be the news of small business, startups and the general public.

Relief expected

He said, we are not immediately expecting the deduction in fixed deposits due to the pressure of liquidity coverage ratio on the bank. Actually, the interest rate at which RBI gives money to other banks is called repo rate. In such a situation, when the interest rate from the RBI is cheaper, then the banks also give the benefit to many customers by reducing the loan interest rate.

In view of the market situation, decisions have been taken by RBI from time to time. That is, inflation depends on the flow of liquidity in more or more markets. In such a situation, steps are taken by the RBI to reduce inflation, but when things are normal in the market or are running at a slow pace, then it is announced to reduce the repo rate to increase liquidity.

Meaning of repo rate deduction

In February last, the repo rate of 0.25 percent was announced by the RBI, after which the repo rate was reduced from 6.50% to 6.25%. The repo rate was increased to 6.50% in June 2023 by RBI. That is, this change was made in 5 years.
