A man of Indian origin named Mehul Goswami living in New York has been arrested by the police on charges of fraud and theft of government money. He is accused of doing two government jobs at the same time and embezzling an amount of about $50,000 (about Rs 42 lakh) from state funds. Now he may have to face 15 years in jail.

According to the report, Mehul Goswami was working as a remote worker in the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). During this time, he also took up another job in the nearby city of Malta and continued taking salary from both the places.

Fraud revealed in investigation
This case came to light in a joint investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Inspector General’s Office. After investigation, it was found that Goswami was doing another full-time job even while holding a state job, which is a serious violation of the rules. Inspector General Lucy Lang said in the statement – ‘Government employees are responsible for serving the public, and Goswami’s actions are a serious breach of that trust.’ He further said that doing another full-time job while doing a government job is a misuse of public tax money.

will not get bail
According to reports, Goswami’s crime is non-bailable. Officials said the matter will be resolved cooperatively and the judicial process will move forward. Working two jobs at once in America, known as ‘moonlighting’, has grown rapidly in the last few years. According to US Census Bureau data, the number of people working two jobs increased by about 10% between 1996 and 2018. More than four million American workers were working two jobs in 2022, many of whom were maintaining two full-time jobs.

The trend is increasing in India also
The trend of ‘moonlighting’ is increasing in India too, especially in the IT sector. Due to low salary increase and inflation, many employees have started taking up second jobs for additional income. However, now many companies are making strict rules and checking the past records of employees so that such activities can be stopped.

The most shocking and probably prolonged taching story of 2025 and probably a topic of discussion has come out and the name behind it is Soham Parekh. An Indian engineer who took a job together in America’s Y Combinator-Backd many startups. Soham has confessed to some interviews and shared the reason behind it.

Actually, the story begins with the X post of Suhail Doshi, co-founder of Playground AI on 2 July, where he claimed Soham Soham was working full-time in three to four startups at the same time. After this revelation, there was a earthquake on the internet. After his post, many other startup founders or CEO confessed that Soham worked with him or he was almost to choose him for his startup.

PSA: There’s a guy named Soham Parekh (In India) Who works at 3-4 Startups at the same time. He’s been Preying on YC Companies and more. Beware

I Fird This Guy in His First Week and Told Him to Stop Lying / Scamming People. He hasn’T stopped a year laater. No more Excuses.

– Suhail (@Suhail) July 2, 2025

Gave the verge Statement I admitted to Soham that he was doing many jobs together, but was behind him. Soham said, “I don’t support it … It was not going to last much time, but I needed money.” Soham told that initially it was only related to one startup but as soon as he got the offer, he started saying yes.

According to Soham, he did not do this with any bad intentions, but believed that this method was not good. He admitted that all this was “out of control”. He also approached Suhail Doshi and said, “I like to build … I just want to make my career again.”

At the same time, soon after Doshi’s revelation, Soham also gave TBPN one. Interview Diya, in which Soham said that he used the “Mouse Jiggler” tool so that the system looks active. Also, he had maintained a multi-screen setup from which he managed 4-5 jobs at a time.

According to TBPN, Soham earned $ 2,500 (more than 2 lakh) every day, which is about Rs 6.85 crore in a year.

Suhail Daeshi and many Y Combinator- Founders allege that Soham gave fake resumes and wrong visa status during the interview. Because of this, he was hired by many startups. Some startups found that he was missing meetings or joining two startups calls simultaneously.

Internet opinion is divided on this entire controversy. A section says that Soham did wrong and should be banned. At the same time, the second section considers it to be the result of the work-life exploitation and the US hiring flaws.

The Verge report said that Soham is now trying to start a new SAAS project again and has also sent invites to some developers. But on social media, people are being trolled by calling him “serial scammer”.<!--
