The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has adopted a strict stance regarding the cases of disappearance of more than one lakh people in the last two years in Uttar Pradesh. While hearing the cases of missing people on Thursday (05 February), the High Court has summoned the Additional Chief Secretary Home and Director General of Police on the next date along with the complete records.

The High Court has directed the concerned departments of the state government to present all the data and records related to the missing people. The court made it clear that this matter is very serious and worrying and it is necessary to fix administrative accountability.

Complaints of 1,08,300 people missing registered

According to the data presented in the court, in the last two years, 1,08,300 complaints of missing people were registered in the state, but the police could find only 9,700 people. The court expressed deep displeasure over lack of effective action in the remaining cases. Let us tell you that on Wednesday, the High Court took suo motu cognizance of this matter and ordered filing of PIL.

Next hearing will be held on March 23

During the hearing held on Thursday, the court directed that the next hearing will be held on March 23, in which it will be mandatory for the Additional Chief Secretary Home and DGP to be present through video conferencing. It was also said that on the next date, the government will have to submit a complete report along with what concrete steps have been taken so far to search for the missing people.

High Court had taken suo motu cognizance

It is noteworthy that during the hearing of a case related to a missing person on Wednesday (February 04), information came to the notice of the court that during the last two years, 1,08,300 people have gone missing in UP, in respect of whom missing reports have been filed. However, only 9,700 of these people have been traced by the police so far. After which the court took suo motu cognizance and registered the matter as a PIL and asked for hearing.
