As soon as the rain stops in Delhi, diseases spread by mosquitoes have once again increased the worry of people. This year, there has been a rapid increase in matters of Malaria and Dengue in the capital. According to the report of the Municipal Corporation, 371 cases of Malaria have been registered in Delhi till the end of September, which is the highest in the last six years. This is the first time since 2019 when the Malaria infection has caught such a high speed. Last year, 363 cases were registered till this time, while in 2023 the figure was 237, 68 in 2022 and only 66 in 2021.

New cases coming every week in the capital

Along with malaria, cases of dengue are also increasing continuously. According to the MCD report, now 759 cases of dengue have been reported. Even though this number is less than 1,229 cases last year, the Health Department says that new patients are getting every week. At the same time, 61 cases of Chikungunya have also been registered this year, while last year there were 43. However, it is a matter of relief that till now no one has died due to diseases caused by mosquitoes in Delhi. Apart from this, it has also been revealed in the municipal report that due to incomplete leaves of many patients, their verification has not been done. In such a situation, the untrained case remains a big problem for the department. According to the report, the leaves of 104 malaria and 626 dengue patients are also incomplete, while 76 malaria and 195 dengue patients are not detected even after verifying.

Infection is also increasing in Delhi NCR

Along with Delhi, malaria and dengue cases are increasing in NCR areas like Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad. So far 173 cases of dengue and 182 cases of malaria have been reported in Ghaziabad. However, the local administration is running several campaigns for this and is also appealing to people to remove water around the houses. Apart from the capital and Delhi NCR, the situation is more serious with dengue malaria in Jammu. So far more than 1,100 dengue cases have been registered in Jammu. At the same time, more than 40 cases have been reported in four days in Una district of Himachal Pradesh.

Why dengue and malaria cases are increasing

Experts believe that this time the breeding of mosquitoes is large due to heavy rains and continuous watering, due to which the risk of dengue and malaria infection after monsoon is failing rapidly. Apart from this, experts also advise to prevent dengue and malaria that do not allow water to be deposited around the houses and keep the water tank and utensils covered. Apart from this, use mosquito nets at bedtime and contact the doctor immediately if you have complaints like fever, pain or body pain.

India is constantly achieving success in the medical field, but there is a disease that has affected millions of people of the country. This disease spread by mosquito bites causes wildly swelling in the body. Especially there is more swelling in the hands and feet and genitals, due to which this disease is also called Hathipaon in common language. Which state of India has the highest number of patients of this disease and how dangerous this disease is, know in this report?

This disease is the highest in these areas

Filaria patients are very high in India’s tropical and subtropical regions, as warm and humid climate is suitable for mosquito flourishing. According to data from the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO), Uttar Pradesh, India, has the highest number of patients with filariasis. Many people are affected by this disease in both rural and urban areas of Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal are also badly affected by filariasis. According to a report, this disease is present in more than 250 districts of 20 states of India, of which districts like Gorakhpur, Azamgarh and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh are the most affected. At the same time, filaria parasites were found in 2.07% out of 10264 samples in the Knight Blood Survey (21-26 November) in Bhagalpur, Bihar.

Why is filariasis?

Filaria is a parasitic disease, caused by a small threads such as pests called phelroidia. These insects enter the body of humans by bite of mosquitoes. This disease occurs especially due to mosquito of culex, anopheles and Aedes species. These parasites mainly consists of three types of Wuchreeria Bancropha, Brugia Malai and Brugia Timori. Among them, Wuchreeria Bancrophy is the most common. When a mosquito bites a human being, these parasites enter the blood and damage the lymphatic system. This process occurs slowly and sometimes symptoms appear after many years. Apart from this, this disease spreads rapidly due to favorable conditions for dirty water stagnation, dirt and breeding of mosquitoes.

How dangerous is filariasis?

Filaria is placed in the category of neglected tropical disease, as it spreads more in poor and less developed areas. Let us know how dangerous this disease is.

Body effect: The most severe form of filariasis is Elephantiasis, which causes abnormal swelling in the hands, legs, breasts, or genitals. This inflammation can cause permanent disability. In men, hydrocele (swelling in the testicles) and inflammation in the breasts in women are extremely common. This makes the skin thick and rough, which increases the risk of bacterial infection.

Mental and Social Impact: Due to this disease, patients have to face social boycott. People do not like them due to perverted organs, due to which the patients are mentally broken.

economic burden: Treatment and management of filariasis takes a lot of time and money. Chronic patients have to go to the hospital again and again, which affects the economic condition of the family.

Effect on immune system: The disease weakens the immune system, which increases the risk of other infections in patients.

What do doctors say?

Many new research has been done to eliminate filariasis and treat it. The Mass Drug Administration – MDA is being carried out under the WHO and the Government of India’s Global Program to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GPELF). Under this, medicines like Dietialcarbamajin (DEC), Albendazole and McCon are given, which are effective in killing parasites. Dr. Ashutosh Ranjan of Patna says that if the treatment of filariasis is done in the initial stages, the patient can be protected from permanent disability. At the same time, surgery is the only option in serious cases. He said that in the new research, work is being done on macrophilerside drugs, which can kill adult parasites. The medicines present currently destroy only microfilaria (baby insects), but adult worms live for many years.

As soon as the rainy season arrives, the terror of mosquitoes starts every year, many thousands of people die every year due to the disease that grows from them. There is a danger of dengue to chikungunya in different parts of the country, including the country’s capital, Dilli. The danger of chikungunya is now increasing globally. According to a recent report by the World Health Organization (WHO), around five billion people worldwide are at risk of getting hit by the disease. This virus has already knocked in 119 countries, which is a matter of concern.

How serious is the danger?

According to the WHO report, so far about 5.6 billion people are in danger of spreading this virus. The report states that rising temperature and climate change are helping to spread this infection faster. Because of this, the WHO has appealed to the countries to take strict steps and formulate a rescue strategy.

What is the situation in India?

Chikungunya cases are constantly coming up in India. Last year, more than 17,000 cases were registered. Experts say that this danger increases further during the rainy season because mosquitoes are the highest at this time.

Infection reached Europe

Till now Chikungunya was considered to be the disease of tropical and sub-trial regions, but now it is also spreading in Europe. According to the report, this infection, which started from Africa in 2004-05, has gradually reached Asia, America and Europe.

How does Chikungunya spread?

The disease spreads from the bite of infected female mosquitoes, especially from the mosquito of the Aedes aerpti and the albopictus species. These mosquitoes are more active during the day and their number increases in the rainy season.

Symptoms and danger

Chikungunya symptoms are dengue, sudden high fever, joint and muscle pain, fatigue and skin rash. This disease can prove to be fatal in serious cases. WHO has warned that if the treatment is not found on time, then cases of death can also increase.

Rescue is the biggest solution

The biggest way to avoid this is to follow the security rules issued for this. Do not allow water to accumulate and use mosquito nets or repellent to prevent mosquitoes. Keep cleanliness around and do not release water in open utensils. Wear light colored clothes and keep the body covered as much as possible. WHO says that there is no vaccine available for Chikungunya at this time, so caution is the biggest weapon.
