Kancha Sherpa, born in Namche village of Nepal, passed away. He played an important role in the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. Nepal Mountaineering Association confirmed that Kancha Sherpa died at his home in Kapan (Kathmandu) at the age of 92.

The year 1953 was recorded in the pages of history, when for the first time a human being stepped on Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, but behind this victory was the contribution of not just two but hundreds of anonymous hands. One of them was Kancha Sherpa, who was the last surviving member of the team. He was born in 1933 in Namche, Nepal. He often used to say that he did not even remember his exact date of birth, because at that time no official records of birth were kept in the villages.

Hillary and Norgay’s historic campaigns
In his youth, Kancha Sherpa had to walk for 5 days to reach Darjeeling (India) in search of work to support his family. This search brought him into the world of mountaineering, one trip of which recorded his name in history forever. Hillary and Norgay’s historic expedition included 35 climbers and hundreds of porters. Kancha Sherpa worked as a porter and guide in this team. He carried luggage weighing approximately 60 pounds, tied ropes and guided the team through dangerous routes.

Kancha’s old interview
Kancha had said in an interview in 2011 that this work was difficult, but I got good experience. I got good clothes and respect too. Although his task was not to reach the summit, he remained with Hillary and Norgay until the final base camp. When the two summited Everest on 29 May 1953, Kancha and the rest of the team celebrated this success by dancing and hugging.

life after everest
Kancha continued mountaineering until 1970, but after a terrible avalanche, his wife Ang Lhakpa Sherpa requested him to leave this work. After this he started working in a trekking company, where he used to take tourists on safe and low altitude routes. He often used to say that if we stop tourists to save the mountains, we will have nothing left to do but grow and eat potatoes.”

memory of great mountaineers
Tenzing Norgay, who climbed the peak with Kancha, died in 1986 and Sir Edmund Hillary died in 2008. Now Kancha Sherpa also departed as the last member of this historic team. According to Everest Chronicle, he is survived by his wife, four sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world, its height is 8,848.86 meters. Climbing Mount Everest is the dream of every climber. But to make this dream come true, not only courage and hard work, but also have to spend big money. Let us know how much a man costs to climb Mount Everest.

How much does it cost per person

Every year hundreds of adventures try to climb Everest. But very few people are able to succeed. The cost of climbing Mount Everest is so high that it is considered out of reach of the common man. The total expenditure of climbing Mount Everest can be from 30 lakh to 1.5 crore rupees per person. This cost depends on many factors such as permit fees, guides, equipment, training and travel arrangements.

Government of Nepal increased permit fee

The Government of Nepal has recently increased the permit fee by 36%, after which this fee from 2025 for Indian climbers who used to cost about 80 thousand rupees earlier, now it will be Rs 12 lakh. The new rates to climb the high peak will be applicable from September.

How is the expenditure fixed

Apart from the permit fees of the Government of Nepal, the local company charge which is up to 2.08 lakhs. Refundable waste fees around 3.32 lakhs, Sagarmatha pollution control fee is about Rs 49,800 per person, the cost of laying rope in upper mountainous areas is about Rs 16,600 and the cost of Lyzon Officer is about 2.08 lakhs along with flight tickets. Apart from this, insurance is also mandatory which can be expensive according to the risk.

In addition, the risk is also not low. Weather uncertainty, avalanche, lack of oxygen and height related diseases can be fatal. Every year only 50-60% climbers are able to succeed and since the 1920s, more than 300 people have lost their lives.

Fees are charged according to the season

The rate of climbing on Mount Everest varies according to the season. Climbing fees between September and November have been increased from US $ 5500 to US $ 7500. That is, about one lakh 60 thousand Indian rupees have been increased in this fee. At the same time, between December to February and June to August, the permit fees have increased from US $ 2,750 to US $ 3,750. That is, a fee of 80 thousand rupees has been increased in it.

Everyone knows the world’s highest peak Mount Everest today, but very few people know what its real name was, who discovered it and why it was named “Everest”. This peak was discovered by the British in the 19th century, when the work of measuring the height of the land under the name “Great Trigonometric Survey” was going on in India. At that time, the British named this peak as “Peak XV”, because it came out as a high peak without name.

This person calculated the height of Everest in 1852

In the year 1852, Radhanath Sikdar, a promising Indian mathematician of the survey team, told for the first time that this peak is the highest peak in the world. This news shocked the British officials, because earlier Kanchenjunga was considered the highest. After this, Surveyor General of British India, Andrew Waugh, recommended the name of this peak after his former officer Sir George Everest.

How was the name kept

The interesting thing is that Sir George Everest himself did not want this peak to be named after him. He believed that the name that is in the local language should be adopted. But despite this, in the year 1865, the Royal Geographical Society officially named it Mount Everest. Even today in Nepal it is called Sagarmatha, which means “peak of the sky”, while in Tibet it is named Chomolungma, which means “mother of the world”. But the name “Everest” given by the British is the most recognized in the whole world.

Why Mount Everest is special

Mount Everest is not just a mountain, but it is the highest peak of the earth. Its height is 8,848.86 meters, ie about 29,031 feet. It is situated on the border of Nepal and China (Tibet). In Nepal it is called Sagarmatha, the height of Mount Everest makes it special for the world, because there is nothing on the elevated earth.

This peak is the dream of climbers around the world. Thousands of people try to conquer it every year, but this journey is not easy. Climbing Everest can also be fatal, because there is very low oxygen, temperature lives in minus, icy storms go and can kill the cracks of snow.
