Share Market News: On the second day of the week, Tuesday, October 21, during the Muhurta trading session, foreign investors (FIIs/FPIs) bought Indian shares worth Rs 96 crore. At the same time, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1527 crore by the end of the trading session.

Domestic investors sold shares worth so many crores

Domestic investors bought shares worth Rs 324 crore and sold shares worth Rs 931 crore. In contrast, foreign investors bought shares worth Rs 622 crore, but sold shares worth a total of Rs 526 crore. So far this year, foreign investors have sold shares worth Rs 2.40 lakh crore, while domestic investors have bought shares worth Rs 6.02 lakh crore. Vineet Bolinjkar, head of research at Ventura, says, “This year’s Muhurta trading session reflected cautious optimism in the face of a subdued outlook for 2024.

Sensex rose to 84,600 and Nifty remained around 25,900, with most of the sectoral indices remaining in the green. Among these, IT, banking, auto and pharma shares were at the forefront. Muhurta trading of 2024 saw slow growth after a volatile period. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks performed weak due to global uncertainties. Nifty 50 is now improving and its position is likely to become stronger in Samvat 2082.

Possibilities of further improvement in Nifty

The Nifty index is currently trading at a Forward P/E of 18x to 2026, which is slightly higher than its average of 17x. This shows that the possibility of further decline is limited and it is expected that Nifty will improve from the current level. Key drivers of this potential upside include improvement in domestic consumption-driven income from Q3FY26, a potential US-India trade agreement and fiscal and monetary support including interest rate cuts and increase in government capital expenditure.

Diwali Muhurta Trading 2025: Diwali special trading session will be held in the Indian stock market today, which is known as ‘Muhurat Trading’. This trading session will run from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm on Tuesday, October 21. Generally ‘Muhurat Trading’ is held in the evening. Today, this is happening after many years, when ‘Muhurat Trading’ is being conducted during the day time. With this, Samvat 2082 will begin.

How is business during Muhurat trading?

According to the data, Nifty 50 has gained in 8 out of the last 10 Muhurta trading sessions. During this period it had registered a growth of about 12-15 percent. Whereas twice the closing has happened with a decline. That means, overall, most of the sessions during Muhurat trading have been positive. During Muhurta trading, the market had done its best business in the year 2022, the stock market had made a spectacular gain of 0.87 percent. Whereas the last decline was recorded in 2017. Apart from this, there was a decline of 0.14 percent in 2016 also.

What does 10 years of data say?

Apart from this, in 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 respectively. Increases of 0.54 percent, 0.65 percent, 0.37 percent, 0.47 percent, 0.49 percent, 0.87 percent, 0.51 percent and 0.40 percent were recorded. From Diwali of 2024 to Diwali of this year, a slight increase was seen in the Indian stock market, in which Nifty 50 index increased by about 5 percent and Sensex increased by about 4 percent. In such a situation, there are signs of good trading this year also. According to experts, this time the performance was sluggish compared to last several years because along with global uncertainties, the stock market also faced many domestic challenges.

Muhurta trading timeline

First of all, it will start with a block deal session at 1:15 pm, which will continue till 1:30 pm. Then at 1:30 pm, the pre-open session will start and will continue till 1:45 pm. After this comes the time for which all investors wait and that is the Muhurat trading session which runs from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.

After this, the closing session continues from 2:55 pm to 3:05 pm. In this, investors get the last 10 minutes to change the order before the market closes. You will not be able to do business after 2:55 pm. Muhurta trading is considered auspicious. It is believed that investments made during this period bring benefits throughout the year.

Muhurta Trading Top Picks: On the occasion of Diwali, the countdown of ‘Muhurat Trading’ has started in the stock market. This year Muhurta trading has been kept on 21st October i.e. today between 1.45 to 2.45 pm. In fact, every year on the day of Diwali, the special trading session held in the stock market for one hour is called ‘Muhurat Trading’. Investment is considered auspicious during this period. This is also considered the beginning of the new era. Asit C Mehta Investment Intermediates (ACMIIL) has suggested some favorite stocks which can bring profits to investors during Muhurta trading. Let us take a look at these stocks for Samvat 2082-

Adani Ports & SEZ

Adani Ports provides integrated logistics services in ports, rail and special economic zones. Apart from India, the company also has presence in countries like Israel, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. Backed by government initiatives like ‘Sagarmala’ and ‘Gati Shakti’, the company is in a good position for volume growth and cost efficiency. Giving a target price of Rs 1,591, the brokerage has advised it to ‘collect’, which indicates an upside of 8.6 per cent from the current price.

Titagarh Rail Systems

The brokerage has also advised to ‘accumulate’ the shares of Titagarh Rail Systems. Also, a target price of Rs 1,072 has been kept for the share, which shows an increase of 21 percent. In this era of rapid modernization of Indian Railways, Titagarh Rail Systems will continue to get the benefit of expansion in the freight corridor. Its wagon annual capacity is 12,000 and the integrated foundry increases its expansion capacity. Its position remains strong with a strong order book of Rs 26,000 crore. With increasing investment in trains like Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat, the company is in a position to grow its income in double digits.

Polycab India

ACMIIL has given ‘accumulate’ rating to Polycab India shares and has kept the target price at Rs 8,440, which indicates an upside of 10 percent. Polycab is India’s largest wire and cable manufacturing company.

Larsen & Toubro

Giving a target price of Rs 4,565, the brokerage has given ‘accumulate’ rating to the shares of Larsen & Trubow. L&T is a big company in the engineering sector in the country. Its order book is more than three times its annual revenue. Its presence in infrastructure, energy and digital solutions indicates its growth in different sectors. The company is also gradually expanding its scope in the data center and semiconductor segments, which reflects its changing strategy with time.

Cipla

Giving the rating of ‘accumulate’, the brokerage has kept its target price at Rs 1,808, which indicates an increase of 10 percent. Cipla’s multiple innovations in biosimilars, complex injectables and specialty drugs support its global expansion in many emerging markets such as the US and South Africa.

What to do in ‘Muhurat Trading’?

During ‘Muhurat Trading’, book orders first during the pre-open session (1:30-1:45 pm) to avail the information about the opening price of shares. Then, buy shares in the first 30 minutes of normal trading (1:45-2:15 pm) as it is easiest to buy or sell shares at that time due to high activity. Bets on small stocks in the last 30 minutes (2:15-2:45 pm) are best for modifying the portfolio.

However, to earn better profits, preparation should be done in advance and not on the spot. To ensure that your bet proves better, check the quarterly results of the companies and the debt of the company. In this way, prepare a list of some trustworthy companies. Overall, prior research is very important.

Muhurta Trading: The whole country is busy preparing for Diwali. This time Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, 20th October. However, the stock market will not remain closed during this period. On this day, there will be trading in the stock market as usual. That means on this day the market will be open from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Trading will continue in the stock market on the day the entire country celebrates Diwali.

Now the question comes that why would this happen? Actually, the holiday dates are different in both National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). For this reason the stock market will remain closed on 21st and 22nd October. Stock markets will remain closed on Tuesday, October 21 for Diwali Lakshmi Puja and on Wednesday, October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada.

What is Muhurat Trading?

Muhurta trading is a special trading session held for one hour on the day of Diwali. The word ‘Muhurta’ means auspicious time and is considered the auspicious beginning of Samvat 2082 in the Hindu calendar. Many investors start new investments on this day. BSE and NSE open their terminals during this period, even though the markets remain closed for the rest of the day. During this time, investors focus more on investing not for profit but to remain prosperous throughout the year. Generally, on this day, investors especially place bets on such shares which will give them profits in the long term. Generally, there is a rise in the stock market during Muhurta trading.

When will Muhurta trading happen?

Muhurta trading will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The pre-open session will run from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm, after which the trading window will be open from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm. The closing session has been scheduled from 2.55 pm to 3.05 pm. Generally Muhurta trading starts around 6 pm. That means this time Muhurta trading will take place in the afternoon instead of the evening.

Stock market holiday: There may be confusion in some investors regarding whether there will be trading in the Indian stock market today. In such a situation, let us know that on Thursday, on 2 October, the stock markets will be closed due to the festival of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. There will be no business or settlement in stock, derivatives and commodity segment on Thursday in National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE. This business week will be small due to holidays. Now the stock market will open directly on 3 October, Friday.

Stock market holidays in October

There will be two more holidays in the month of October- Diwali (on the day of Lakshmi Pujan) on 21 October and Diwali Balipratipada on 22 October. Now the question comes, at what time will Muhurta trading be held during this period?

On the occasion of Diwali, Muhurta trading on NSE will be held on Tuesday, October 21. The stock exchange said in a circular that the trading session will be held between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm. Last year, the Muhurta trading session was organized between 6 pm and 7 pm.

Why is Muhurta trading special?

The Hindu calendar year starts from Diwali. It is believed that doing business at the time of Muhurta trading is auspicious for investors. During this time, investing in new stocks or adding new stock to your portfolio remains profitable. Trading is done from Monday to Friday, 9:15 am to 3:30 pm on domestic stock market. There is also a pre-open session from 9:00 am to 9:15 pm in regular business days. The market remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. After October 5, there will be no trading in the stock market on the occasion of Prakash Guruparva on 5 November. After this, the stock market will be closed on the occasion of Christmas on 25 December.
