In Kerala, a photo of the letter of support to the MLAs from the hand of Congress observer Mukul Wasnik has surfaced, in which the MLAs had expressed their choice for the post of CM after talks yesterday (May 07, 2026). In this letter, next to the names of the MLAs, the name of the CM face of their choice is also written.

Within the Congress, two names VD Satheesan and KC Venugopal were leading for the post of Chief Minister. In such a situation, this letter has come to light. In this, the MLAs who were claiming to support Satheesan have also supported KC Venugopal. State President Sunny Joseph was also talking about supporting Satheesan, but according to the list he has also supported KC, due to which he has canceled his press conference today.

Congress MLAs expressed their preferences

In a one-on-one meeting with AICC central observers, 47 of the 63 elected Congress MLAs – including KPCC president Sunny Joseph – proposed Venugopal’s name as the next Chief Minister of Kerala. The party high command can announce the chief ministerial candidate by the end of this week.

Apart from Sunny, Sandeep ji. Warrier, Sajeev Joseph, T.O. Mohan and Usha Vijayan were also among the elected MLAs who proposed Venugopal’s name. It was a big blow to Ramesh Chennithala, another contender for the top post, as his close aide I.C. Balakrishnan supported both Venugopal and Chennithala.

Which names are in the CM race in Kerala?

Sources said that the former opposition leader got the support of eight elected MLAs. Current opposition leader VD Satheesan, who is seen as the popular choice for the post, has the support of six MLAs. Both Satheesan and Chennithala also met the observers and presented their claim for the post. Venugopal did not attend this meeting.

Apart from the 63 MLAs, Maken and Wasnik also held separate meetings with Congress MPs and senior party leaders to know their preferences. While three former KPCC presidents supported Satheesan, several senior leaders supported Venugopal. The observers, who have returned to New Delhi, will submit their report to party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Sources said that if necessary, the high command will call Sunny, the three working presidents of KPCC, and Satheesan and Chennithala for talks.

Meanwhile, in the Congress Legislature Party meeting, Kharge was unanimously given the right to decide the name of the next Chief Minister. Sources said that after completing the due processes, the high command will announce the next chief minister by Saturday or Sunday; And the new Chief Minister, along with two senior Congress leaders and leaders of other constituent parties of the UDF, will take oath within two days of the announcement.
