Actually, the Maharashtra government is preparing a special scheme to provide relief from the increasing traffic in Mumbai and its surrounding cities. The government will build the world’s largest water metro network, which will cost about Rs 6,066 crore. Its main objective is to reduce the increasing pressure on roads and railways. Under this scheme, hundreds of kilometers long waterway network will be built. Apart from this, electric-hybrid boats will be run and a modern boat making center will also be established in Sindhudurg. Crores of passengers will benefit by 2031

Maharashtra’s aim is that by the year 2031, about 7.5 crore passengers can benefit from this service. According to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the solution to Mumbai’s traffic problem is not possible just by increasing the road and rail network. This is the reason why transportation is also being made an important part of the city’s public transportation system. Apart from this, pod taxi service is also expected to be started in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Where will the modern boat manufacturing center be built?

An agreement has been signed between Maharashtra Maritime Board and Zoya Marine Services Private Limited for the Mumbai Water Metro Project. Under which, an electric boat manufacturing center will be built on about 22 acres of land in Sawantwadi taluka of Sindhudurg district at a cost of about Rs 150 crore. Electric and eco-friendly boats will be prepared for the water metro here.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a budget of ₹80,952 Crore for 2026-27, which is 8.77% more than last year.
