Amidst the scorching heat and humidity in Mumbai and its surrounding areas, a post on social media suddenly increased people’s concern. The viral post claimed that the “feels-like temperature” in some areas of Mumbai Metropolitan Region i.e. MMR has reached above 60 degrees Celsius. As soon as this claim came out, there was a stir on the internet and people started wondering whether the heat of Mumbai has really become so dangerous? However, later clarification regarding this post also came out.

What was claimed in the viral post?

Actually, an account named Mumbai Rains on X shared a post in which the “feels-like temperature” of different areas was described. According to the post, the temperature was 62°C in Thane, 55.7°C in Chembur, 53°C in Navi Mumbai, 47.1°C in Borivali and 45.1°C in Santa Cruz. This post quickly went viral and people got scared thinking it to be the real temperature of Mumbai.

clarification given later

When confusion started increasing on social media, the account clarified that this was not the actual atmospheric temperature but “feels-like temperature”. That is, by combining humidity, moisture and wet bulb temperature, it was estimated how hot the weather is felt by humans. It was said in the post that due to excessive humidity, the situation in Mumbai and surrounding areas is feeling more disturbing than normal.

Funny and worried reactions on social media

After the viral post, people gave different types of reactions on social media. One user wrote, “It feels as if you are living inside an air fryer.” Another said, “I have never felt this much humidity in Mumbai before.” Some people blamed urbanization and less greenery for the increasing heat. Many users asked whether the situation has really become so bad.

Hope to get relief next week

Mumbai Rains account later claimed that there may be a slight drop in temperature from next week and it may also rain in Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department has issued weather advisories for many parts of Maharashtra, especially Mumbai and Konkan region. The Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of rain in the coming days, but has also warned people to be cautious about the hot and humid weather.
