Bangladesh Police has arrested Yasin Arafat, the main accused who instigated the fundamentalist mob which brutally murdered Hindu minority citizen Dipu Chandra Das on charges of blasphemy in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. According to officials, former teacher Yasin Arafat played an important role in the planning and execution of this terrible attack. After which Bangladesh is facing global criticism for this incident amid continuous atrocities on minorities in the country.

In fact, last month, on 18 December 2025, 27-year-old Hindu minority Dipu Chandra Das, working in a textile factory in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh, was forcibly fired from his job by the factory supervisor and handed over to the fundamentalist mob. After which the radical fundamentalist mob beats Dipu Chandra Das badly and kills him. Then she hangs his dead body from a tree and sets it on fire. At the same time, one of his colleagues is also allegedly involved in killing Deepu.

Main accused Arafat was absconding after Deepu’s murder

Bangladesh Police said that after the murder of Dipu Chandra Das, the main accused Yasin Arafat had fled from the area and was hiding, who was arrested by the police on Thursday (January 8, 2026).

According to officials, it was Yasin who hatched the entire conspiracy behind this horrific attack and instigated the mob to target Hindu minority youth Dipu Chandra Das. Thanks to leadership in a local community, he reportedly quickly gathered a large group, which escalated into a deadly attack.

Bangladeshi police said that Arafat not only incited the mob to carry out the attack, but he himself dragged Dipu to an intersection, where he was hanged from a tree and then set on fire.

After the murder of radical youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi in Bangladesh in December, there is continuous unrest and tense situation in the country. Bangladesh’s minority Hindu community has been continuously targeted in the last few weeks after the assassination of Osman Hadi. In recent weeks, a mob of fundamentalists in Bangladesh brutally tortured five people of the Hindu community in five separate incidents and finally murdered them in a gruesome manner.

According to the spokesperson of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, 7 people of Hindu community have been murdered since December. However, the council did not provide detailed information about the two victims.

Which people were murdered?

Dipu Chandra Das: First of all, on December 18, 2025, 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, a minority Hindu man, was murdered in a gruesome manner in Baluka in Mymensingh district in Bangladesh. Dipu Chandra Das, who worked in a textile factory, was beaten to death by a fundamentalist mob on alleged blasphemy charges. Later his body was hanged from a tree and set on fire. However, at least 12 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in Das’s murder.

Amrit Mandal: In Bangladesh, on December 24, 2025, Amrit Mandal was beaten to death on charges of extortion in Pangsha sub-district of Rajbari town. This was the second incident of murder of a Hindu person in Bangladesh.

However, it was reported that Mandal had allegedly formed a criminal gang and was involved in extortion and other criminal activities. Locals attacked him when he, along with his gang members, tried to extort money from a resident. According to the police, there were at least two cases registered against Mandal, including murder.

Khokan Chandra Das: At the same time, the murder of 50-year-old Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das was the third incident that happened to a Bangladeshi Hindu, which was carried out by a mob of fundamentalist people on the night of December 31, 2025. Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das was returning home after closing his shop on the night of 31 December. Meanwhile, the miscreants attacked them with sharp weapons and then set them on fire. Das, who ran a medicine shop and mobile banking, died in the hospital on January 3, three days after the incident.

Rana Pratap Bairagi: In this series, 38-year-old Rana Pratap Bairagi, owner of an ice making factory in Bangladesh and acting editor of the daily BD Khabar newspaper published from Narail, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Jessore district of southern Bangladesh on January 5, 2026.

Police described Bairagi as an active member of the banned East Bengal Communist Party and said that it appeared he was a victim of internal strife in the party. Police said that four cases are registered against Bairagi in two police stations. However, detailed description of these cases is not available.

Moni Chakraborty: At the same time, the fifth person from the Hindu community in Bangladesh was murdered on January 5, 2026. In Charsindoor market of Palash sub-district of the country, unknown assailants attacked and killed a 40-year-old grocery shop owner with a sharp weapon.

Incidents against Hindus increased after Sheikh Hasina’s coup

However, after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s government from power in the month of August 2024, several incidents against minority communities in Bangladesh have affected the Hindu population there. According to the census of 2022, about 1.31 crore Hindus live in Bangladesh, which is about 7.95 percent of the total population.

Violence, harassment and killings against minority Hindus continue in Bangladesh. Khokan Chandra Das, a 50-year-old Hindu businessman, died during treatment at the National Burn Institute in Dhaka on Saturday (January 3, 2026), who was first attacked with sharp weapons and completely bled to death and then set on fire.

According to news agency ANI, Dr. Shaon Bin Rehman, Professor of National Burn Institute, has confirmed the death of Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das. Khokan Chandra Das, 50, died during treatment in the hospital three days after the alleged incident.

Khokan Chandra Das kept fighting the battle of life for three days

Actually, three days ago, businessman Khokan Chandra Das was returning home by auto at night after closing his medicine shop. Meanwhile, on the way, some attackers stopped him and beat him badly. After this, they poured petrol on them and burnt them alive. However, after this incident, Khokan Das kept fighting for his life for three days with the fear of death and unbearable pain, but in the end he lost the battle of his life.

What did Bangladesh Police say regarding the matter?

According to Bangladeshi police, Khokan Chandra Das was a resident of Tiloi village of Koneshwar Union and he ran a mobile banking business along with a medicine shop in Keurbhanga market. On Wednesday (December 31, 2025) night, Das was returning home after closing his shop when the attackers attacked him on Damudya-Shariatpur Road near the market.

According to the report of Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo, when the attackers attacked him and set him on fire, Khokan Das jumped into a nearby pond to save his life. When the local people heard their screams and reached the spot, all the attackers ran away from there. After this, the local people took him out of the pond and admitted him to the emergency ward of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for treatment.
