Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed an important security agreement on 17 September (Wednesday), under which the two countries said that the attack on each one would be considered an attack on both. This deal will strengthen Saudi’s security through Pakistan’s nuclear weapons options.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif signed the agreement in Riyadh, which further strengthens the defense relations of the two countries. The agreement includes things like mutual defense, nuclear security and financial assistance. Saudi also gave Pakistan a loan of $ 3 billion, which will support Pakistan’s economy.

This deal will strengthen the anti-Iran strategy

Experts say that this deal strengthens the anti-Iran strategy. Saudi described it as essential for regional peace, but it is also aimed at controlling the threat of Iran’s nuclear program and Huti rebels. The agreement came a week after the attack on Israeli’s Qatar, when Gulf countries felt less confident in American security. In such a situation, Saudi turned to Pakistan for not getting security guarantee from America. However, the question is also arising that if Iran-Saudi war happens, will Pakistan be involved in the war against Iran on behalf of Saudi.

Who is more powerful in Iran and Pakistan?

According to Global Firepower 2025 data, many interesting facts have emerged compared to military power between Iran and Pakistan. Pakistan’s population and active military forces are more than Iran. Pakistan has 654,000 active soldiers, 550,000 reserves and 500,000 paramilitary, while Iran has 610,000 active soldiers, 350,000 reserves and 220,000 paramilitary forces. However, Iran’s defense budget is around $ 15.45 billion, which is twice the $ 7.64 billion of Pakistan. Iran also has a lot of capacity of natural resources, oil and gas reserves.

Pakistan’s dominance is visible in terms of air and land power. Pakistan has about 1,399 aircraft and 2,627 tanks, while Iran has 551 aircraft and 1,713 tanks. Iran has more number of submarines in naval power (8 vs. 8 of Pakistan), while Pakistan has more total number of ships. This comparison shows that the balance of power between the two countries is quite important at the regional level and the strength and weaknesses of both have to be taken into account in any conflict.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a strategic mutual defense agreement on 17 September, under which an attack on either of the two countries would be considered an attack on both. The agreement has created a new stir in regional and global strategic equations including India. Experts believe that this step will strengthen military and political relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, while security challenges for India may also increase.

Saudi Arabia’s ambition and Pakistan’s dependence
According to well-known journalist Brahma Chelani, this agreement is not a symbol of Pakistan’s power, because the country is on the verge of financial crisis, but shows Saudi Arabia’s ambitions. Saudi Arabia wants to strengthen its regional grip using Pakistan’s military and nuclear resources and is also giving a message that it will decide his strategy himself.

Riyadh Knew India would construct the saudi-pakistan mutual defense pact as a directed to its security, Yet it is ahead. The move reflects not Pakistan’s strength – it remains on the brink of bankruptcy – but saudi arabia’s ambitions.

By binding a chronically dependent…

– Dr. Brahma cheellanyy (@chellanyy) September 18, 2025

Political message is hidden behind the decision
Chelani also said that the agreement on Modi’s birthday indicates that Saudi Arabia is carrying forward its political and strategic interests regardless of India’s sensations. India tried to form a strong relationship with Saudi Arabia through growing defense partnership and joint military exercises.

Modi has spent years wooing saudi arabia, upgrading ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership and making repeated visits, including a key trip in April. Yet, on Modi’s Birthday, Crown Prince salman delivered a nasty surprise: a saudi -pakistan mutual defense pact declaring…

– Dr. Brahma cheellanyy (@chellanyy) September 18, 2025

Pakistan gets new support
According to expert Michael Kugelman, Pakistan has entered into this agreement with a colleague who is also an important partner of India. After the agreement, Pakistan has got the support of three major powers like China, Türkiye and now Saudi Arabia. However, he believes that this agreement will not prevent India from attacking Pakistan, but Pakistan’s situation has become stronger.

Pakistan has not only inked a new mutual defense pact, it inked it with a close all that’s also a top partner of India’s. This pact would not deter India from Attacking Pakistan. But with 3 key power-china, turkey & now ksa-fitted on pak’s side, pak is in a very good place.

– Michael kugelman (@Michaelkugelman) September 18, 2025

Regional and global strategic impact
The agreement has created new security and diplomatic landscapes for India, America and other global powers. This makes it clear that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan together can affect the regional power balance and use military and political resources for their interests.
