Many children have vision problems since childhood, due to which they wear glasses at an early age. Actually, myopia or nearsightedness in children is a matter of concern worldwide. This problem occurs in children when their eyeballs become long. Due to this, children see nearby things clearly, but distant things appear blurred. Earlier this problem was not so common, but now it is increasing rapidly and is especially seen in children. Let us tell you why the risk of myopia is increasing in children and what do doctors say about it?

Why is the risk of myopia increasing in children?

Myopia is a genetic disease. If one of the parents is myopic then the risk of this increases in the child. However, if both mother and father are affected, then the risk is even greater. Research shows that our genes influence the growth of the eyes and due to this heredity the eyeballs can become longer. Due to which distant objects may appear blurry, but genes are not the only reason behind the increasing myopia around the world.

Danger from lifestyle and screen time too

According to doctors, nowadays the lifestyle of children is becoming a major reason for increasing myopia. Studying for a long time on things like phone and laptop, playing games puts pressure on the eyes of children. Whereas children’s eyes remain safe by playing outdoor games and spending time in natural sunlight. Research shows that spending 90 to 120 minutes a day in natural sunlight can slow down abnormal eye growth. But lack of space in cities, exam pressure and less opportunities to play outside are reducing this security for children. According to a WHO report, almost half the world’s population may become myopic by 2050. Early onset of myopia, especially in children, can increase the risk of serious eye problems in the future. These problems include serious diseases like retina constriction and glaucoma.

What should parents do?

According to doctors, daily habits are more important than genes in preventing or reducing myopia. In such a situation, parents can reduce the risk of myopia by making small changes in their children. For this, parents can get their children’s eyes checked every year, so that this problem is caught on time. Apart from this, send children to play outside for at least one to two hours every day. Limit the screen time of children and prevent them from spending continuous time on mobile or laptop. Apart from this, parents can also adopt the 20-20-20 rule on children, in which after every 20 minutes of studying or watching the screen, they have to look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This problem can also be reduced by including Vitamin A, C and Omega-3 in children’s diet.

World Health Day 2025: World Health Day i.e. World Health Day is celebrated all over the world on 7 April every year. This day brings a special message not only for doctors or health workers, but also for the common people. World Health Day reminds that health is our biggest property. So today we will talk on World Health Day, a disease related to the eyes which is becoming a matter of concern.

Children are quite sensitive, so they come in the grip of diseases quickly. For some time, a disease has been making children a victim rapidly. It is an eye -related disease, which is called Mayopia. WHO has alerted everyone in one of its reports that if not focused at the right time, by 2050, about 52% of the global population will suffer from Myopia.

Let us tell you that only 3-4 people used to be myopia in the year 2000, but by 2022, this number increased to 20%. The Kovid-19 epidemic further increased the risk of Myopia, as during this, children used to attend classes online.

What is myopia

Myopia means near vision defect. In this, due to the reforative error, the children do not see anything from the blur ie properly, while the nearby thing is clearly visible. In this disease, children get glasses at an early age. Therefore, doctors recommend taking care of them from the beginning. Children victims of Myopia, TV, sign boards on the way, black boards in school are not able to watch properly.

Why this disease occurs

Although Myopia is a hereditary disease, it shows a family pattern, but recent research has revealed that along with the environment and rapidly changing lifestyle, screen time has also been considered to be the reason for the increase of this disease. It is seen nowadays that children spend the most time among electronic gadgets. The screen time of the mobile has also increased, due to which this disease is making children their victims.

Actually, the blue lights scattered by the screen disrupt the sleep pattern, which increases the risk of Myopia even more. Research has shown that Mayopia is not developed by being in touch with external lights, especially in childhood. Dopamine starts leaking into the retina, which does not allow iballs to spread excessively due to ultraviolet (UV) light contact.

Symptoms of myopia in children

1. Do not look clearly

2. To see the eyes to see something far away

3. Eye stress and fatigue feeling

4. Attention or Focus is reduced

5. Headache persistent

Why Myopia is spreading among children

5, 10 -year -old children are not a good sign being weak. Nowadays, the screen time of children has increased and the physical activities outside have reduced. Parents leave their children to see the cartoon by holding mobiles. This causes negative effects on the eyes of children in the development stage itself. Due to which the eye is getting weaker rapidly.

The biggest reasons for being myopia

1. According to the National Eye Institute, Myopia often starts from the age of 6 to 14 and its symptoms can be worse by the age of 20. The reason for this is to keep the eyes buried in the screen.

2. Due to many health conditions like diabetes, elders can also cause myopia.

3. Visual stress, smartphone or laptop screen can lead to myopia by giving continuous time on screen.

4. Family history means genetic condition can also cause myopia.

How to save children’s eyes from Myopia
