West Bengal Assembly Election 2026: Nadia district of West Bengal is considered a very important and sensitive area of ​​state politics. This district, adjacent to the Bangladesh border, has been proving to decide the direction of power in every election. There are a total of 17 assembly seats here and the competition has always been very tough.

In the 2021 elections, Nadia was completely divided into two parts. BJP won 9 seats… while TMC won 8 seats. That means the district remained completely fifty-fifty.

Nadia has a large population of Matua community.

There is a large population of Matua community in Nadia. Who has been considered a traditional voter of BJP. But the questions arising amid the identity crisis arising out of vote cutting in the SIR process have created confusion in this vote bank.

If we look at the past election history. So in the 2011 elections, TMC under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee won 12 seats and reduced the Left to only 5 seats.

After this, in 2016, TMC further strengthened its hold. And captured 13 out of 17 seats, while the Left-Congress alliance was reduced to only 4 seats.

The equation keeps changing with time

That means the equations keep changing with every election in Nadia. And this time too the eyes are fixed on this fifty-fifty district. Meanwhile, when Pratima Mishra of Jatrasiddhi village in Kalyani reached Kalyani, she came to know that out of 1300 votes in one booth, more than 600 names have been deleted due to SIR. While in Jatrasiddhi village of Kalyani, we talked to many local people. Who also say that not only the names of Muslims but also the names of Hindu families have been removed from the voter list.

The question of the villagers is that when the votes of both the communities have been cut. Then why is BJP saying that everyone will be sent to Bangladesh?

People say that this statement brings fear and deep sorrow within them.

What have the women told?

In this village, we also talked to some women whom every party tried to woo in the elections, to know whether the women here really live under the shadow of fear, which BJP is making the election promise to remove, then listen, they said, ‘We have no fear, Mamta has done a good job. What happened and what didn’t happen can be known only when we listen to it in the news. Our daughters go to the city to study without any fear.

Wherever we went in this village, we found cases of voting being cut off in some house or family due to which people were both angry and regretful about not being able to vote. Talking to a family peeling corn, sitting on an e-rickshaw and showing the faces of those whose votes were saved and those being cut, he said that those whose rights were intact are happy and those whose votes were cut are sad and angry.

There is only one way to reach this village of Nadia and that is a rusty iron and broken wooden bridge. Despite this, the complaint of the people living here is not about the lack of facilities but the identity crisis that has arisen after SIR.
