In Hindu religion, every festival and fast has its own special religious significance. One of these festivals is Narak Chaturdashi, which is celebrated as Chhoti Diwali or Roop Chaudas. This festival is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha, a day before Diwali. According to the scriptures, the god of death Yamraj and Hanuman ji are worshiped on the day of Narak Chaturdashi.

There is a religious belief that worshiping and remembering Yamraj on the day of Narak Chaturdashi reduces the fear of death and protects from the fear of untimely death in life. This not only protects from negative forces but also brings longevity, mental peace and prosperity in life.

According to mythology, lighting a lamp made of wheat flour or clay is considered very auspicious. Apart from this, on the day of Narak Chaturdashi, after taking bath in the morning and worshiping, Yama lamp should always be lit in the south direction outside the main entrance of the house in the evening, because the south direction is considered to be the direction of Yamraj. It is believed that by doing this the negative energy remains outside.

On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, Yamraj, who is called the god of Yamalok, is worshiped, hence do not kill any living being on this day. Also, non-vegetarian food should not be consumed on this day, and hair and nails should not be cut. It is said that on this day, do not keep the south direction of the house dirty, because the direction of Yama is considered to be south. Making these mistakes on this day can make it difficult to get rid of.

Worshiping Lord Krishna on the day of Narak Chaturdashi is also considered auspicious. Because this Lord Shri Krishna had killed the demon named Narakasura. Narakasura used to torture his people a lot. Therefore, when Lord Krishna killed Narakasura, light was victorious over darkness and unrighteousness.

It is believed that worshiping Yamraj on this day gives spiritual power. This festival is also considered a symbol of safety of life, protection of family and happiness. Not only this, this day also reminds us of the deep mysteries of life and death.
