Tmc MLA Narendranath Chakraborty on Operation Sindoor: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Narendranath Chakraborty has given a controversial statement regarding Operation Sindoor launched after the Pagalgam terror attack. He allegedly described Operation Sindoor as a drama and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of playing with the feelings of patriotic people. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded an NI investigation on the matter.

In the video that went viral on social media on Friday (June 06, 2025), Chakravarti is heard saying, “The way he (BJP) has started this vermilion (game of sindoor), it seems that this whole episode seems to be a drama. There was connivance with Pakistan. BJP’s war threatening is nothing but a game.

Cleaning on the statement

However, he later claimed that his comment was distorted by political purpose and was presented incorrectly. He said, “I respect our security forces including the Indian Army. Some parts of my speech were introduced and distorted by political purpose to degrade me and my party.”

What did TMC say?

Senior TMC leader and West Bengal minister Chandima Bhattacharya described Chakravarti’s remarks as individual and said that the party does not support such remarks. Bhattacharya said, “Our president (Chief Minister of West Bengal) and National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee have already clarified the party’s stand against terrorism and has clearly supported our armed forces during Operation Sindoor. We are all united on the issue.”

BJP demands NIA investigation

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Legislative Assembly and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari demanded that the Anti -Terrorism National Investigation Agency should investigate whether Chakraborty was related to anti -India forces. Apart from this, a leader of the BJP’s Minority Cell has lodged an FIR against the TMC MLA. In the FIR, the opposition party has demanded action against Chakraborty, alleging that they have made an anti -national statement that the armed forces -assessment of the valor and sacrifice of the armed forces and encouraging Pakistan -sponsored terrorists to destabilize India.
