National Beekeeping and Honey Mission: If some source of extra income is found along with farming, then the economic condition of the farmers can become quite strong. Nowadays, beekeeping i.e. ‘bee-keeping’ has become a business in which huge profits can be earned at low cost. The best thing is that bees help in pollination of crops.

Due to which the production also increases and there is also separate earning by selling honey, wax and royal jelly. The central government is also encouraging farmers to bring about ‘sweet revolution’. What is this plan?

To promote beekeeping, the government has started the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM). The objective of this mission is to double the income of the farmers of the country. The scheme is completely funded by the Central Government and is implemented through the National Bee Board (NBB). Under this mission, emphasis is not only on the production of honey.

Rather, the production of other valuable products related to beekeeping like propolis and bee-venom is also promoted. This scheme has brought a big vision of creating new employment opportunities in rural areas by adopting scientific methods in farming.

This is how the government provides help

Under this scheme, the government provides huge subsidy and technical assistance to the farmers and animal husbandry to start beekeeping. According to different categories, subsidy ranging from 35 to 50 percent is given on the project cost. This includes financial assistance for purchasing bee boxes, hives and other necessary equipment.

Besides, the government also provides modern training in beekeeping to the farmers. So that they can learn this work without any harm. The government is also spending a lot of money on setting up a lab to test the quality of honey and on cold chain and storage facilities to transport it to the market so that farmers can get the right price for their produce.

Application has to be made like this

If you want to take advantage of this scheme. So first of all you have to register yourself by visiting the official website of National Bee Board (NBB). Aadhaar card, bank account information, residence certificate and land related documents are required for the application. After registration you are given a unique ID.

You can also get information about the scheme by visiting the Agriculture Department of your district or the nearest Agricultural Science Center and fill the form for training from there. Once your application is approved and you complete the training. So the subsidy amount is transferred directly to your bank account. so you can start your work
