The Supreme Court will hear the petition given by Geetanjali Angamo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) on the Leh violence. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday (October 6, 2025) on a petition filed against the custody of husband Sonam Wangchuk on behalf of Gitanjali Angamo.

According to the report of news agency ANI, Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice N. The bench of V. Anjaria will hear the case, which has also demanded to release climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.

Sonam Wangchuk arrested under NSA

Allegations of inciting violence in Leh on Wangchuk

Ladakh officials accused climate activist Sonam Wangchuk of inciting violence in Leh. Sonam Wangchuk was going on a hunger strike demanding Ladakh to get full state status and to include it in the sixth schedule of the Constitution. The youth of Ladakh were also involved in his protest. But on September 24, 2025, a group of youth from the protesters separated from peaceful performance and joined violent activities. During this violence, the protesters also carried out arson incident in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office and also vandalized a lot. At the same time, four people were also killed during this period. For which the Leh police blamed Sonam Wangchuk. However, after violence in Leh, Sonam Wangchuk had ended her hunger strike in the middle.

Amritpal Singh (32), MP from Khadur Sahib, is currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam. He was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) after his arrest on 23 April 2023. Earlier, the state government did not extend the detention period of Singh’s colleagues.

Amritpal’s colleagues were brought to Punjab

These nine colleagues arrested in connection with the 2023 Ajnala police station attack were brought back to Punjab after their detention ended under the NSA. These people were identified by Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias Prime Minister Bajeke, Gurmeet Singh Gill alias Gurmeet Bukkanwala, Sarabjit Singh Kalsi alias Daljit Singh Kalsi, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla alias Guri Aujla, Harjit Singh alias Chacha Kulwant Singh, Dhaliwal alias Kulwant Singh, Varinder Johal and Pappalprit Singh.

Amritpal Singh won in 2024 Lok Sabha elections
