National Teachers Award 2026: The Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education has started the application process for the National Teacher Award 2026. Through this prestigious item, those teachers across the country will be recognized who have made significant contributions in the field of teaching, research, innovation, student guidance and institutional development. Eligible teachers working in universities, colleges, higher educational institutions and polytechnics can apply online for this. The last date for submission of applications has been fixed as 5th July 2026.

Awards will be given in two main categories

National Teacher Award is divided into two main categories. The first category is for teachers of higher educational institutions. This includes specialties like engineering, technology, architecture, pure sciences, arts, social sciences, humanities, languages, law, commerce and management. The Ministry has clarified that emerging new knowledge areas can also be included in this category. The second category has been prescribed for teachers and faculty members working in polytechnic institutions across the country. Under this, teachers who have made excellent contributions in the field of technical education will be honored.

Who can apply?

The candidate applying for National Teacher Award 2026 must be working regularly in a college, university, higher educational institution or polytechnic. Along with this, the candidate should have at least 5 years of full-time teaching experience at graduate or post graduate level. The age of the candidate should not be more than 55 years as on the last date of application. Whereas the currently working Vice Chancellor, Director and Principal are not eligible for this award. However, persons who have previously held these posts and are currently active in teacher service can apply under the prescribed conditions.

Nomination can be done in three ways

The nomination process for the National Teacher Award has been kept completely online. Teachers can apply themselves. Apart from this, the head of any institute can also propose the name of a qualified teacher. Colleagues from the same institute can also send nomination of any teacher. According to the ministry, applications received through all three mediums, self-nomination, institutional nomination and peer nomination, will be considered. All applications will be submitted online through the National Awards Portal.

Interested teachers can register themselves by visiting the National Award Portal. After registration, you will have to login and fill the application form and upload the required documents. After filling all the information correctly, the application will have to be finally submitted.
