Pakistan’s friend Turkey has announced the new discovery of 92.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas. According to the current market rates, its value has been estimated at around 37 billion US dollars i.e. around Rs 3.08 lakh crore. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar told the Parliament’s Energy Committee that this discovery is the biggest step towards Turkey’s energy self-sufficiency. Out of this, 75 billion cubic meters of gas was obtained from the Goktepe-3 well in May 2025.

Minister Bayraktar informed that the government aims to complete a total of 300 drilling operations by 2026, of which 282 will be onshore and 18 will be offshore. Turkey is currently producing 1.8 lakh barrels of oil per day, which is enough to fuel approximately 7 million vehicles. He said that oil production in the Mount Gabar field has been increased to 81,000 barrels per day from the earlier 57,000 barrels. Due to this, the country’s trade deficit has reduced by about 2 billion dollars every year.

20 million cubic meter production by 2026

The Turkish government also said that gas production of 20 million cubic meters / day will be started by 2026 through the new floating platform Osman Gazi being established in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea. In the third phase (by 2028), this production is expected to increase to 45 million cubic meters/day.

Self-reliance in energy sector through modern drilling technology

Over the past decade, Turkey has built the world’s fourth largest oil and gas exploration fleet. This includes 6 drilling ships and 2 seismic survey ships. With the help of these modern ships, Turkey is now able to dig and produce in its own sea areas, thereby reducing its dependence on foreign companies.

New gas discovery in Egypt, increased energy activity in Arab region

Along with Turkey, Egypt has also recently announced the discovery of new natural gas. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, Badr El Din Company has discovered a well in the Badr-15 field of the Western Desert, which has the capacity to produce 16 million cubic feet of gas and 750 barrels of condensate per day. This is likely to increase Egypt’s national gas reserves by approximately 15 billion cubic feet.

India core infrastructure sector: India’s infrastructure sector is moving fast. In June 2025, the growth rate of eight core infrastructure sectors of the country reached a three -month high level 1.7 percent. According to the government data released on Monday, it is higher than the growth rate of 1.2 percent recorded in May 2025, but is less than the growth of 5 percent recorded in June 2024.

These five sectors- coal, crude oil, natural gas, fertilizer and electricity, which were recorded output negative in June. However, positive growth was recorded in the production of refinery products (3.4 percent), steel (9.3 percent) and cement (9.2 percent).

There was so much reduction in production

In the first (April-June) quarter of the financial year 2026, eight core sectors have gained 1.3 percent growth. Whereas in the same period last year, it was 6.2 percent. That is, growth has decreased compared to the last one year. Coal production has declined by 6.8 percent in June, while crude oil production has declined by 1.2 percent. The production of natural gas and fertilizer has declined by 2.8 percent and 1.2 percent respectively.

Production of five out of eight sector is reduced

According to the report of News18, ICRA Limited Chief Economist Aditi Nair said, even though the core production increased from 1.2 percent of May 2025 to 1.7 percent, it certainly remained slow and a decrease in production of five out of eight sectors. He further said, where the output of coal remained under pressure due to the elevated base, while the excess rainfall in the beginning of June 2025 affected the production of electricity.

These sectors performed well

He further said, encouraging the production of cement and steel sector gained 9.2-9.3 percent growth in June 2025. The growth of these sectors was good in the first quarter of FY 2026, which means that strong GVA growth will also be achieved in the construction sector. Economists estimate that this slow performance of infrastructure will affect the overall GDP growth in the first quarter of FY 26.

Hardeep Singh Puri, while talking exclusively with the Indian Express, said that India is on the verge of searching a big crude oil bhandal in Andaman Sagar.

He has compared this reserve in Andaman to the huge oil discovery made by Hays Corporation and CNOC in Gayana. Significantly, Gayana is currently at the 17th position in terms of the world’s crude oil reserves, where there is an estimated reserves of about 11.6 billion barrels and gas.

Economy will be 20 trillion

Puri says that if a discovery like Gayana is in India, the country’s economy can increase from $ 3.7 trillion to $ 2 trillion. Oil Bhandal’s discovery in Andaman for the Indian oil industry can prove to be a trump card. This will not only make India energy producing countries with energy imports, but India can also get a new identity on the global energy map.
